I mean, look, I'm not a reporter, so who am I to talk?

But on a day where the president both just called a woman reporter "Piggy" and is celebrating someone who had people bone saw apart one of my colleagues, I might just be a little ready to defend my colleagues and profession.

But that's just me

Such a good read.
I think @dinfontay.com summed up the moral fracture in journalism really well: “I feel cliché referencing George Carlin, but after a week like this what else can you say? There is a big club, and we aren't in it.”
Moral rot in elite journalism is killing the whole field
The Nuzzi/RFK Jr. mess and the revelation of Esptein's journo pals lay bare a profound moral absence at the heart of our free press.

And, the more you think you know that’s wildly wrong.
The more you watch Fox, the less you know.
notably, Fox News is not broadcasting the Khanna/Massie/Greene Epstein news conference live. CNN and MS are.

So true.
Went back to the history of the Sicilian Mafia to illustrate something obvious but worth stating explicitly: The Trump administration behaves like an organized crime syndicate running a protection racket, not a representative government www.theatlantic.com/ideas/2025/1...

to live through the Trump administration is to be inundated with news 24/7, story after story of absurd and horrible scandal

unless you are Mike Johnson, who lives in an idyllic world full of puppies and rainbows in which nothing ever happens
RAJU: Last week you were very critical of Biden's use of the autopen. But Trump admitted on 60 Minutes to not knowing he pardoned a crypto billionaire who pleaded guilty to money laundering. Does that also concern you?

MIKE JOHNSON: I don't know anything about that. I didn't see it. I'm not sure.

if you think the problem is that the democratic party is too extreme rather than our current media environment privileges right wing bull shit then you have no real business discussing politics in public

These folks have empathy and understand families in need.
I work in accounting at a non-profit nursing home. Most of our residents are on Medicaid.

They just brought up $175 in cash that they'd collected and asked if we could arrange to donate it to our local food bank.

Yes. Yes, we can.

And yes, now I'm crying at my desk.

The disappearance of America’s leadership class at a time like this means that the rest of us have to be leaders. We can no longer wait to be led by those with the power and authority to lead. You must lead, I must lead, all of us must lead. We are the leaders we’ve been waiting for.
