Got myself an e-bike when I arrived in AKL CBD 5mths ago. Having the time of my life cycling the CBD, along the waterfront. Down lots of back streets, flitting from place to place with ease (not stuck looking for a carpark).
We should all be doing this, for our health & planetary health 🌏

OK I know the last one said 7/7 but I thought I would like to highlight THIS post from someone called Kent Duston. He also presents as a Pākehā man of a certain vintage, however, he DOES posts his pronouns and he also took the time to post this! (and actually go on the hīkoi) so it's not all bleak
(text) So we went on the Toitū te Tiriti Hikoi, and it was wonderful and terrible all at the same time. We skipped the walk over the harbour bridge and gathered with thousands of others at Okahu Bay, before walking our way up to Takaparawha, Bastion Point, and a welcome from Ngāti Whātua Ōrakei. If you're as old as me, you'll know the significance of that place. And we bumped into people we knew, some of whom we hadn't seen in years, and we met new people, and did a bit of chanting led by a kid who was maybe 6 years old, and we compared signs and had a laugh and stood around and chatted, and did all the other things that happen at protests. And there were all kinds of people ... plenty of Māori of course, from all over the motu, and grannies and kids in pushchairs and piles of teenagers, and people with Asian heritage and Indian heritage and heaps of Pākehā just like me, carrying signs saying, tangata tiriti, toitū te tiriti. This is our nation, now ... diverse, inclusive, wanting a better place for our kids and grandkids, learning a bit of the Reo, standing with one another to push back on the things we all think are unfair. So it was great. But as we started our walk towards Bastion Point, one woman in a t-shirt stood out - because on the back of it was a stylised version of one of the most iconic photos in our nation's history: Dame Whina Cooper, holding the hand of her moko, embarking on the long and arduous Hikoi to Wellington in 1975. If you've grown up in Aotearoa, you know this photo and what it symbolises. And it shook me to my core to see that image, in that place, and understand why that wonderful Māori woman walking to Bastion Point put that t-shirt on this morning. Because 49 years later, to our shame, we are having to do it all over again. Dame Whina led us all into a different future, and our country is richer for all that happened after she and her moko stepped out onto that road in the Far North.
