Re-introduction: I am Gabriel Liston, painter.
Everything starts in a notebook, as a cartoon.
I was the twink in art school carrying the preschooler, a hunting knife, ibuprofen.
Now the old man scribbling in a library book.
Work for hire, work for sale. Happy to listen.

There are a lot of Portlanders who consider themselves progressive but turn reactionary when they see visible poverty.
The urge to just make poverty disappear from sight instead of working toward holistic solutions is why we don’t have nice things in this country.
Poverty is a social creation.

How does your pathetic "plan" keep me alive through 2026? How does it pay the premium increase I face? How fucking dare you come on here with this bullshit.
1. We need to fight hard for a good ACA extension early in December and hold Republicans fiercely accountable if they betray everyone.

It's not over, folks. If you want Democrats to stand up for healthcare AND snap benefits, reach out to them and tell them what you need. Call the eight turncoats. Call your representative. Email them. Blast them on social media.
We still have time to get through to them.
We still have time to get through to them.
Is the shutdown over? Not yet.
Tonight’s vote was only step 1 of 5.
There’s still another 60-vote hurdle, amendments, AND then the House.
Pressure matters right now—especially on Kaine, Rosen, Hassan, Shaheen.
Stay loud.

Our amendment doesn’t cut those things.
Mayor Wilson could’ve called me to clarify and ask questions before blasting us in a newsletter, but of course he has to find a scapegoat when he doesn’t magically end homelessness on 12/1 by warehousing people.
Looking forward to clarifying this tomorrow.

The Impact Reduction Program also provides trash abatement, which is essential in maintaining clean, walkable sidewalks for all Portlanders. We shouldn‘t cut their budget.

So it turns out... the US air travel system was incredibly, deeply dependent on federal funding to just run day-to-day all this time, to the benefit of private airline shareholders, when everyone thinks that state-run trains are leeching off the government. Weird!

So proud to see this and suddenly know whose city is hosting this conference
We're out here walking around all the time thinking about this tag

The point of (interior) house painting is to make walls beautiful, yet whenever i take a housepainting gig, my feelings about anything still stuck to that wall are kinda like how James Acaster feels about people laughing.

A page from last Monday's community life drawing session at Daydreamer.
Oh! And I finally bought a binder and clear sleeves so i can start sorting these for reference (and justify cramming fat-tip pencil drawings onto 8x10 inch paper).

This is also how you get successful multistate lobbying efforts—legislators don’t have the bandwidth/time to craft their own legislation so they take free language that’s up on offer

Very good turnout in my Portland neighborhood when local schools were threatened with raids today.
Kids and families seem to have all headed home safely.
Folks clustered on all corners chatting, now dispersing.
Still not ready to take this whistle off my neck, you know?
