I think we need to keep repeating this point —that decisions by this admin, by the EPA Secretary confirmed by our Senators, by DOGE as Nick Begich III & Dan Sullivan enthusiastically cheered it on —directly impacted Kipnuk’s destruction. Alaskans need to see that politics affect homes, bodies, lives
"The E.P.A. grant was intended to fund Kipnuk’s river stabilization project for three years. Planning, design & some construction were supposed to happen between June and September, when the river would have thawed enough for barges to bring supplies to the village."

It was cancelled last spring 🫠

WIRED led the way in reporting on Elon Musk's efforts to dismantle the US government. My colleagues and I spoke to 100s of employees at dozens of agencies to understand what happened.

This is the definitive story of DOGE as told by those who experienced it

Critical part of the President's new $100,000 charge for H1-B visas: The Administration can also offer a $100,000 discount to any person, company, or industry that it wants. Replacing rules with arbitrary discretion.

Want visas? You know who to call and who to flatter.

This is happening *now* in the 2025 fiscal year.

We have no guarantee that if Congress does not pass the severe budget cuts the administration wants that the administration simply won't fund things.
“This year the NSF has awarded only $32 million, representing a 72 percent reduction. By this metric, mathematics is one of the most deeply affected subjects, second only to physics, which has seen an 85 percent reduction.“

I don’t think anyone is prepared for what they just did w/ ICE.

This is not a simple budget increase. It is an explosion - making ICE bigger than the FBI, US Bureau of Prisons, DEA,& others combined.

It is setting up to make what’s happening now look like child’s play. And people are disappearing.

Beyond today's annexation of the NSF building, this new budget detail in WaPo is also 🤯 and needs investigation:

"So far this year, [NSF] has received only $6.5 billion of the congressionally appropriated $9 billion that it is supposed to spend on research"

Now we aren’t allowed to have in person panels.
