That would be me 👋🏻!

Funny how these are almost entirely female-dominated professions who will now face extra barriers to loans and therefore to education & careers.
If you’re a social worker helping those in poverty or other marginalized groups, you’re not a professional in the eyes of Donald Trump & JD Vance.

My social worker/youth violence prevention perspective on how to help teens in light of all this Epstein files news will be published on Tuesday!
I'm exercising self-control, so instead of QTing everything I see about Epstein & Trump like I want, I'm writing the essay I've been meaning to write & submit to @mississippifreepress.org re how we can meet this moment w/ appropriate education about sexual violence for the young people in our lives.

On this Trans Day of Remembrance, we remember the bright and courageous trans people whose lives were stolen by hatred. Their absence is felt across our city.

We will honor them by building a New York where every trans person can live safely, fully and freely.

Will you permit me a more-personal-than-usual 🧵 based on recent news?

For some reason this infuriating Nuzzi-Lizza-RFK-Olberman-Sanford story has me bemusedly re-thinking my 20's. Like, what if instead of all the school & growth & social justice, I'd focused instead on being pretty & a sugar baby?

This is who the President today said “had it coming” regarding his torture & dismemberment.
I will never forget having to edit Jamal’s final, posthumous piece for the Washington Post, after he was murdered.

He was calling for free expression in the Arab world. You can read it here :

Opinion | Jamal Khashoggi: What the Arab world needs most is free expression
The Arab world needs a modern version of the old transnational media so citizens can be informed about global events.

I’m so MAD on behalf of all the writers, esp writers from marginalized communities, who don’t get lucrative book deals & spreads in magazines & profiles in newspapers, despite having actual writing talent & professional ethics & insight. I’m so mad at what’s awarded to the undeserving privileged.

This Nuzzi-Lizza-Olberman-Sanford-Kennedy news cycle feels as though it were specifically designed to drive real writers crazy. Especially ethical, talented, non-racist POS women writers who do everything right & still can’t get published & who are now are burdened w/ even more sexist stereotypes.

What’s sad is that as horrific as this Summers-Epstein chat is, it’s so common.

Almost every woman you know — myself included — has been on her side of this situation at some time or another in her career (minus the seeking advice from Epstein part, probably).

That’s why all this hits us so hard.
Summers said this woman saw him as a mentor. To try to manipulate that into sex is so horrifically predatory…

And then you add the wild power imbalance given his professional standing. And the 20+ year age difference.

And THEN you add that he sought advice on this from Epstein. In 2018.

Hideous.

All other conspiracies aside, the conspiracy of silence, of male journalists just joshing it up w/ a known trafficker & rapist of little girls & covering for the crimes of his famous clients — including A PRESIDENTIAL CANDIDATE & later PRESIDENT — is what gets me. Solidarity w/ predators > all of us

In non-terrible news, I finally pushed to make a long-held life goal happen & move towards food sustainability — I got 4 chickens! Pullets from a hatchery in Butte. My dad helped me transport & do some work on a free coop from a neighbor & the yard I bought. Lots of work but I’m glad to be here.

Even more fun with the right wax on my skis!

We truly are lucky in Anchorage to have amazing trails for every kind of activity, maintained by small non-profits & by the public-private partnership of our parks dept & parks foundation.

Pedo is not the right word. It’s predator, child sexual abuser, child rapist.

The *crime*, the violence of power & control against someone vulnerable is what matters — not the feelings or attraction.
& I will reiterate something I’ve said before: trying to parse whether they are clinically a pedophile or not as relevant as the fact that THEY COMMITTED SEXUAL CRIMES AGAINST CHILDREN, AGAINST LEGAL MINORS.

Young people lack power, & sexual violence is about power & control. That’s what matters.

This is why the Alaska Senate Judiciary Committee needs to immediately take up the Age of Consent law introduced by Rep. @andrewgrayak.bsky.social & passed unanimously in the #akleg House & PASS IT. B/c too many people think it’s okay to prey on teens & our current law lets off creeps like this.
Megyn Kelly: "I know somebody very close to this case…Jeffrey Epstein, in this person's view, was not a pedophile…He was into the barely legal type, like he liked 15 year old girls…He wasn't into like 8 year olds…There's a difference between a 15 year old and a 5 year old."

Yeah this is unconscionable. For a major newspaper like NYT to have this kind of evidence about Trump BEFORE HE WON THE 2016 PRIMARY and to just sit on it this long…

Imagine what could have potentially been prevented?

(Read @datadrivenmd.social’s 🧵)
Can we circle back to the part where the NY Times never disclosed that they have incriminating information on Donald Trump from sent by Epstein that's been sitting on their email servers for nearly a decade?
Stuff like this makes me wonder why there hasn't been any reporting about Trump having affairs during his presidencies

The ease of access to trails & ways to exercise in nature during (almost) every season of the year & every time of day or night — & w/o paying an arm & a leg — was a significant reason why I moved back home to Anch in my late 20’s.

I hope we can keep this.

Seriously. When I got to this episode I thought “Ooh this resonates with a lot of Dem elected behavior” but I did not anticipate it fitting the moment as much as it does right now 🤦🏻‍♀️.
