Most of my career was focused on getting shareholders to vote againts overpaid CEOs. I post about income inequality, social justice, aging, bargains, books, politics, gardens, adoption, humor, hope. Always curious.
Particularly amused w this typo!

Four generations of my family have served our country. Service is in my blood. The President wouldn’t know anything about that.

I tend to answer the phone when it says "potential spam" because I figure it might also be "potential call with life-changing good news." But I'm starting to get discouraged.

Trump claims Venezuelan oil will pay for the costs of US occupation of the country.

This false claim was also made about Iraq, which ended up costing the US almost $2 trillion and significantly increased the deficit.
Q: Is it possible that the US ends up administering Venezuela for years?

TRUMP: Well, you know, it won't cost us anything because the money coming out of the ground is very substantial

This is a really important article. Key point: "Walmart isn't actually paying out less in overall salary than Costco; it's just choosing to distribute that salary in a very different way." Though not a focus of this article this is true for executive pay as well.

I would wager that the actual reason why no prior sitting president has apparently ever taken the Montreal Cognitive Assessment test, is that no prior president or VP since the test's creation in 1996 has ever engaged in behavior that is as suggestive of cognitive impairment as Trump has.
Trump again says his health is “PERFECT” and claims he “ACED” his third straight cognitive exam, a test given by doctors to detect signs of dementia

Have already begun to realize that one thing I liked about 2025 was that it was a good round number for doing math. It feels like 2026 will be inherently more difficult.

Well, it’s happened. I now read both advice, columns, and coming-of-age novels and think they’re being a little unfair to the mother.

Such a straightforward idea. Hasn’t happened because the people doing the actual voting are the wealthy ones

"In masks outrageous and austere
The years go by in single file;
But none has merited my fear,
And none has quite escaped my smile."

I always think of that quote from Elinor Wylie on NYE, from her wonderful poem: poets.org/poem/let-no-...

Just watched the great John Candy bio on Prime. Directed by Tom Hanks son which I’m sure helped get a lot of talent in the room. Anyway, inspired to dig around for clips.

I wonder why “cool running” wasn’t featured in the documentary. I hope it’s not some kind of milkshake duck situation.
I need the world (and especially @meakoopa.bsky.social ) to know that in 1982‘s tribute to B-movies, John Candy hosts a tribute to Ed Wood than ends with him and Dan Aykroyd “re-enacting” the sweater scene from GLEN OR GLENDA. The Ed Wood part starts around 22 minutes in.
