When a famous actress falls ill, Winnie starts to exhibit similar symptoms. Are the symptoms real, or has she fallen under the same delusion?

Controversial take maybe but “Weird Girl Lit” to me feels like one of those terms that starts out well-intentioned but rapidly veers into belittling territory.

if every single service and transaction is monitored for its adherence to fundamentalist christian ethics, and every piece of media has to go through those services or transactions, you could very quickly find yourself in a world where no queer art or publication is possible to obtain or distribute
payment processor censorship is one reason we must resist the idea of a cashless all-digital society

Mastercard: Sex Work is Work. End Your Unjust Policy.
Mastercard's new policy unfairly targets the adult content industry, making sex workers more vulnerable, especially Black trans women. It must be stopped.

Writing a novel was the most frustrating, bleak experience but I did it. So I'm writing a novella, which I'd done previously to the novel, and now I can say: oh this? I can do that.

The struggle is important. It builds the muscle.

In art you must struggle (I don't mean financially) to improve.
if i can be y’all’s dad for a second:

one of the most important things I’ve learned is that acquiring a skill is literally uncomfortable

that awful moment where you feel confused and stupid and embarrassed? it means you’re about to learn something. and it’s *mandatory* if you want to get better

I am surrounded by people who are outsourcing their own thinking to ChatGPT and they are quickly and obviously becoming dependent on it for even the most banal tasks. Once again, the "figuring it out" is the important part. Yes, you can use a crane to lift weights but you will not get stronger

Talking to people who still determinedly support AI despite all of this makes me feel like Cassandra.
As a teacher, I can’t help but see ignoring the screaming of educators about the impact of AI on critical thinking as connected with all the other devaluing of education and devaluing educators. Which is all connected to so many more things.

There's been some hay made in the press about the sheer volume of horror films this year, but when was the last time there were this many must see original films worth going out to a theater for? This an incredible year for horror and film in general. So proud to get to run with this pack of films!

Days like today can make it hard to write. I find that when the world wants me to curl into a ball and doomscroll, pouring that sadness, that rage, that raw contempt, onto the page itself not only helps, but sharpens my words and sometimes even makes them better. Don’t be afraid to write angry.

Absolutely.
At the end of the day, don’t we all just want to spend hours and hours exploring bookstores, museums, greenhouses, art galleries, and libraries?

My friends are glorious, beautiful miracles. I don't expect them to cater to me. I don't want to be friends with a black hole that just spits out what I want to hear?
I want friends to ramble about their interests so I can silently be like this 😍 while they talk?
I want to give? Not just take?
"Buy a program that tells you what you want to hear and call it companionship, only $15 a month"

I at first thought this was an image criticizing the slop machine, not an ad for it.

And it presents socializing, a cornerstone of our species, as a burden. Because that's how social media treats it.
