In my many many conversations with young people about race, this generally rings true. But most who i talk to still tend to understand racism as an interpersonal problem rather than a structural/policy one.
2/🧵 New piece with @jakemgrumbach.bsky.social in @NewRepublic: We analyzed 60,000+ respondents in the 2024 Cooperative Election Study. Gen Z has the lowest racial resentment of any generation. The generational shift overwhelms the education divide that supposedly defines modern politics.
The Shocking Truth About Gen Z Voters Is That They’re Pretty Great
Stop panicking: They are the most progressive generation ever, especially on race. If that surprises you, you’ve been listening to the wrong story.

Posting on Bluesky for me is a bit like shouting into a void, but I wanted to share my AERJ article somewhere.

So, here you go! It's about AP African American Studies and its potential to challenge anti-Blackness (it's complicated). Let me know what you think!

It’s not simply important to denounce political violence because it looks bad not to. It’s the right thing to do on the merits. Even more specifically to this moment it’s important because the forces of fascism are inherently better at political violence than the forces of civic democracy.

There is, as of right now, no coverage of this protest on the WaPo website or in their @washingtonpost.com feed.

So, if you (you reading this) want people to SEE this protest, you must share it.

The immediate impulse seems to be to roast these articles, but more than half of voters chose Trump. Many of us don't know any of them very well. don't we want to know how they think ... so we can, like, win an election next time?
The New York Times interviewed several Trump voters to ask if they trusted Trump’s handling of the Jeffrey Epstein case and whether they believed the president’s denials of any wrongdoing. Here’s what some Trump supporters told us.

I want to reach as wide/diverse an audience as I can, & I genuinely enjoy engaging outside ideological "bubbles." But I'm mystified how many academics I respect & learn from (& all our universities) still use Twitter. It seems increasingly irresponsible to bolster a platform that wants to kill us.

Andry José Hernández Romero, I remember you, even if I do not know how to articulate my horror, rage, & sorrow at your treatment by my government.

No one has heard from you in 109 days.

As vigil, I’m posting a photo or video of you every day until you are returned from El Salvador.

If the Trump admin's allegations of gang activity and terrorism against Abrego Garcia were true, it would have no trouble prosecuting or deporting him legally. So why don't they? One reason might be that none of the evidence offered so far would hold up in court www.theatlantic.com/ideas/archiv...
Due Process Is a Right, Not a Privilege You Get for Being Good
If Kilmar Abrego Garcia is guilty of the crimes he is accused of, then the Trump administration could simply follow the law. Why won’t it?

I taught untracked classes for ten years. I promise you, I did not assault excellence.

This whole uproar about Honors classes going away reeks of racism
It is absurd that Palo Alto School district just voted to remove honors biology for all students & already removed honors English. They call it de-laning. I call it an assault on excellence. I took many honors classes at Council Rock High in PA.

I was recently criticized in my local newspaper by a conservative for having "suicidal empathy." I think it's becoming their thing since Musk said it a bit ago
Criticizing the pope for "suicidal empathy."

Yeah, man, Christ definitely said there should be limits to our empathy. You fucking nailed it.

“Washing one's hands of the conflict between the powerful and the powerless means to side with the powerful, not to be neutral.” -Paolo Freire
The author argues that higher ed should focus on "professional" rather than "political" education.

But there's an irony to that argument, in that the author teaches computer science--a field the US invested in to achieve its Cold War political aims. 1/

This is an obvious point, but cannot overstated. There is an enormous difference between deporting someone - where they get off a plane as a free citizen in their home country AND FUNNELING THEM INTO A BRUTAL PRISON FROM WHICH THEY HAVE NO CHANCE OF EVER EMERGING!!!
