Thrilled to share new article in Critical Social Educator - a true labor of love because it features my sons! I examine the critical literacies young children enact through play within their digitally mediated worlds through everyday moments. Please read and share. (Open access).

Our second substack blog is live! I look at children's biographies as windows into others' worlds, & the way human stories inspired my sons and I, and hopefully you too! Shout out to @carnegielibrary.bsky.social for their collection of biographies. imaginationplayce.substack.com/p/picture-bo...

@aeraedresearch.bsky.social Any chance there will be a slight deadline extension this year? Asking for a friend (me!).

Spent morning observing 1st grade class- joy & movement on the playground, the excitement & play during choice, the earnest responses to the teacher’s questions & provocations; singing along in Spanish… & music, song, gentle words to move the day along. As I left - they were crafting stories. ❤️

I miss the taxi line at JFK ( the whistle!), browsing for dresses at a department store, paper menus, little hardware shops where the owner scales a ladder to find you mosquito coils…

Yeeeeep!
You guys, a conclave of old cardinals can decide on a POPE faster than an academic search committee can decide on the four people we're bringing to campus for an assistant professor search.

Remarkable from WaPo poll: Trump sinking fast on immigration among independents.

56% disapprove of handling of issue
62% oppose removing foreign students
52% oppose renditions to El Salvador
Only 21% want Abrego Garcia left there

Engage, Dems.

Trump Is Suddenly Bleeding Independents. A Brutal New Poll Shows Why.
Immigration was his best issue in the polls. But now he's sinking on it. Maybe Americans care about the rule of law after all.

I love my public library. The main branch of @carnegielibrary.bsky.social is just across from our campus. I bring my kids here often- they have an amazing children's section where they can play, do art, read, and hang out. I'm here right now. The fact that libraries are controversial....

“ERIC is scheduled to run out of money on April 23. After that date, no new documents can be added.”

Colleagues, this is catastrophic for educational research.

Last day with my #diglits undergrads today… I learned I give a lot more work… 😂 but also learned this is the only class many of them speak in and/or know each other’s names. Many students started to hang out & chat on sofas before class each week. I’m thankful they came along on the journey.

So many protests! How much air time will protests receive in mainstream TV news? What uncritical headline will Times write? (Vs. story on golf cart orange guy rode in after sending the country into economic shock). Systems are designed for the results they achieve…. Just saying…

Why are we still dealing with clunky old sites like canvas? If I could sit with a developer, I would design something so much more dynamic and flexible that actually facilitated learning... and now I must go back to rewrite the announcement that canvas just deleted! 😑
