I have a friend who said, of Starfleet Academy, that this took them out of it - that seeing a person in a wheelchair in the 32nd century seemed unrealistic, since medicine in Star Trek "should be able to cure whatever was wrong with them."

With what is called political, sometimes you are not speaking to the oppressor. At all. You are not considering the oppressor's gaze. You know if they see it they'll make of it whatever they want. You're speaking to the rest of the oppressed to gather power, in their language.

Hideous licensing agreement from Red Ogre Review, but what really jumps out at me is the moral rights waiver
Red Ogre (@ogre.red) gets rights to your work upon *submission*.
And those rights are ridiculous. They can change your work, not credit you, use your work for advertising, or put it in an anthology.

It's funny because while most of us think language is something you do to be understood, a lot of academic work is written like only three people are supposed to understand it. And the people who write it take pride that no one understands it because it means they must be the smartest.
