“In my head, there’s a certain type of writer who gets to go into their study with at least a blank page (if not a solid, ready-for-workshop draft), and then there are the writers who have to spend their time erasing from their page what someone else had already written, like me.” #blackwriters #MFA

Kashmir and Palestine are heavily intertwined in their struggles for self-determination and this is yet another mark notched for why and how world politics are heavily intertwined and why as peoples we must be too.

One of the most impactful things you can do? Help volunteers serving their neighbors. Here’s one way—your latest support will go towards Ramadan food baskets for fifteen displaced families in Jabalia.

Disabled people are part of the future.
We must and should imagine and dream of futures where disabled people don't just exist but are everywhere, as we should be.
This need to fix/cure all disability is a eugenicist dreaming, and we should want better for ourselves.
I have a friend who said, of Starfleet Academy, that this took them out of it - that seeing a person in a wheelchair in the 32nd century seemed unrealistic, since medicine in Star Trek "should be able to cure whatever was wrong with them."

That's not the case, for any number of possible reasons.

With what is called political, sometimes you are not speaking to the oppressor. At all. You are not considering the oppressor's gaze. You know if they see it they'll make of it whatever they want. You're speaking to the rest of the oppressed to gather power, in their language.

Met a guy from Sirmaur district, Himachal Pradesh, who was telling me ghost stories. None of the folklore of this area is included in my Ghosts book and now I feel like I need to do a 3-volume second edition. This country has sooo many demons!!!

Hideous licensing agreement from Red Ogre Review, but what really jumps out at me is the moral rights waiver
Red Ogre (@ogre.red) gets rights to your work upon *submission*.

And those rights are ridiculous. They can change your work, not credit you, use your work for advertising, or put it in an anthology.

Don't submit to this one, folks.

ICE has been holding a disabled Black man for a year!

Rodney Taylor is a double amputee who was days away from receiving new prosthetic legs when ICE took him.

He’s been denied his prosthetics & placed in solitary.

His health is declining.

Public outrage might save his life.

It's funny because while most of us think language is something you do to be understood, a lot of academic work is written like only three people are supposed to understand it. And the people who write it take pride that no one understands it because it means they must be the smartest.
