Anyone got a 2026 calendar they like? I got @massiveface.bsky.social’s for 2025. They have a 2026 one that looks great but I think I might want to switch it up this year.

a look at this graph is also instructive as to why the "uniparty"/"both parties of the same" attitude stopped even vaguely approaching reality ~2015 (and the brutal betrayal from so many influencers who repeated the inanity last year)
We spent a year investigating billionaires for @washingtonpost.com.

We found: the wealthiest 100 Americans gave $1.1 billion to influence the 2024 elections — 140x more than they did in 2000. And almost all of that giving boosted Republicans.

Despite my bitter protestations
IN 1985 Alan Moore made a bad deal. This is tolerably well known.  The deal was one of creator ownership, and it was over Watchmen. The deal was that DC Comics would own Watchmen, the work and the …

I wrote about how one under-discussed reason for mass layoffs over the past couple years is that bosses increasingly see employees as threats or liabilities. LinkedIn seemed like the right plus to publish: www.linkedin.com/pulse/parano...
Paranoid bosses, or: What's really behind all the layoffs?
Bosses see employees as threats or liabilities There's a growing skepticism that recent mass layoffs are actually driven by AI. Some are calling this "AI-washing.

Finally finished migrating Sewer Mutant off Medium: sewermutant.com

I ended up self-hosting WordPress on PikaPods. I tried Ghost, but it just felt too constricting. I already moved Kid Minotaur to WordPress and have actually been liking being back on WP.

Teen Vogue's Award-Winning Journalism Was Too Much Trouble for Condé Nast
The outlet just won recognition for speaking truth to power. Condé Nast responded by eliminating its entire politics staff and folding it into Vogue.

From Evan: it's a huge night of hope for the trans community. The Republicans went all in on anti-trans ads in multiple races and so far there's no sign it got them anything.

I am celebrating so this is a thought for tomorrow but: I woke up at Too Early this morning thinking about how much the ~left is willing to ascribe to right-wingers cooking themselves online and how little analysis of why centrist Dems are so weird takes X into consideration
I am worried about all the centrist Dems who are cooking their brains on an Elon Musk-tuned Twitter, imagining that is what “real life” is in this country.

The mapping of Twitter—>IRL was always imperfect (as is Bluesky’s), but the current Twitter is obviously, intentionally, brutally skewed.
Wow it turns out the entire country is not permanently reactionary because Trump won an election by 1.5%

Really surprised the GOP’s message of Trump can do whatever he wants while tanking the economy and letting people starve didn’t win over voters.

Shocking.

We strongly condemn @CondéNast’s consolidation plans for Teen Vogue, a move that is clearly designed to blunt the award-winning magazine’s insightful journalism at a time when it is needed the most. More from our statement:

When I was 13, a kid at school told me he tried to buy Devil’s Hammer at the local comic store, but they wouldn’t sell to him. I looked at least 18 already, so I bought it and sold it to him. Decades later this became part of the inspiration for one of my unfinished novels. icv2.com/articles/new...

No Kings protests were one of the few times Trump, MAGA, and right-wing media were reacting to something the opposition did, rather than the opposition reacting to whatever they do.
Adopt a principle from war strategy: generally better to be taking action and forcing opponents to react. Good point.
Point five is really important. The protests provoked errors from the administration (shit force one) that may haunt them for years. That’s what happens when you stop being reactive.

What, if anything, did the No Kings protests accomplish?

I've seen that pop up in everything from genuine inquiry to sneering dismissal. For anyone asking or facing that question, here's an answer.

Everything isn't all fixed, of course. But the protests accomplished at least these seven things:
