Grad student of theology and writer. Longing for Japanese trucks, mechs, sensible zoning laws, God’s justice for the downtrodden, and the cold embrace of Canadian winter.
The world is dark, but Apple TV is making a Stormlight Archive tv show, so all is well with my soul.

I just discovered this page, and I feel so caught off guard by this post specifically.
Repeat after me:

I am not doper than Steve Irwin.
I am not doper than Keemstar.
I am not doper than Junji Ito.
I am not doper than David French.

But if I stand back and watch and learn,
I will be doper than I am.

The goat has fallen! These signs must be studied: does this portent our coming destruction? Or is this a sacrifice that will stave off the powers of our time... Only time will tell.
The winds are hard enough that Gävlebocken fell.

Me curled into the fetal position muttering: ”You’re a good grad student, a smart grad student. You’ll get the paper in on time… good grad student.”

The only correct answer to the cyberpunk splitting of Canada scenario involves Calgary and Edmonton becoming separate countries. Continually fighting over the warzone of Red Deer with their super soldiers on rocket skates.
i love how almost every major cyberpunk/post-cyberpunk RPG setting has Canada splintering with Quebec and Alberta leaving: GURPS Transhuman Space does this
i think the map of North America is even funnier

At long last last, government has finally invented ‘turn the inner workings of your fragile nation over to hostile trans-national corporate interests’ from the hit book ‘you shouldn’t have turned the inner workings of your fragile nation over to hostile trans-national corporate interests’.

I’ve never felt so attacked in my life.
One of the many reasons AI can't produce good writing is it can't hate its own writing. It can't think to itself "Maybe I'm illiterate" during the writing process. And that's essential

Me and my wife have been watching through Code Geass, and I have to say the whole themes of fascism thing is feeling a little too real right now.

Listening to the Earthblade soundtrack by @lena.fyi is both a “man this is so good!” And also a “Frick, I’m bummed this game never came to fruition.” Her work on Celeste’s soundtrack is definitely in my top 10 albums. And those songs have come to mean a lot to me through their

I am curious what your reaction to Trump legalizing Kei car production in the US is @poetinbabylon.bsky.social . I hate that this is how we get the dream little trucks. But if this is how things go down, so be it.

I swear can Quebec and Alberta just chill on the violation of rights business for like 10 minutes?? They seem to be trying to speedrun the charter at this rate.

Framing it this way isn't helpful. This is something being *done to* rural people. The dynamics described are crafted by centralized govts + corps with urbanized extractive bias - not rural communities. Punching down on rural places both misses the real problem and harms progressive agendas...

My hottest take is that the CBC should have a game publishing branch. If you want to promote Canadian art and culture, our gaming industry is massive, and there are a lot of great game devs who've been laid off who would probably be happy to find employment. That or at minimum highlight the great

The newest Pokemon game has a group called the “Society of Battle Connoisseurs“ in it. And they abbreviate it as “SBC” so I can only ever read trainers from that group as “Dylan of the Southern Baptist Convention sent out Arbok!”

I'm still on a world series doomscroll following that loss. So I read this as a Blue Jays post. Accurate either way.
It is not a good thing that the past 20 years have been an unrelenting "fuck you" to people who believe in the goodness of humanity and following the rules.
you cannot keep doing this without eventually becoming misanthropic and feeling that the values you grew up with are meaningless and the people around you will excuse anything as long as it doesn’t personally inconvenience them
