I heard someone on MSNBC say that when it comes to news, people should decide for themselves what resonates with them - be it Fox or MSNBC. This is ridiculous. We need to more clearly differentiate between news and opinion. News should be a factual reporting of what happened. Not an interpretation.

No, it doesn't help, not at all. Any asshole can tell us both sides are "saying those [same] things." Your job as a journalist is precisely "to discern the truth." Since you can't do that, find another job.
Both sides of a conflict are calling each other evil and corrupt, rendering me, a humble journalist, helpless to discern the truth. Best I can do is let you know that both sides are in fact saying those things. Hope this helps
