One of the first three astronauts to fly to and orbit the Moon in Apollo 8. Then he survived Apollo 13. . Prior, he flew on two Gemini missions (7 & 12).

He was 97.

Same source reiterates that this is NOT an asteroid or a comet, that this object is slowing as it approaches our planet - not merely passing by via gravity. Source confirms General Grey, head of Space Command, is at the Pentagon now being informed of the situation.

WOW! An unnamed Pentagon source is CONFIRMING the SETI report about an unknown radio signal being picked up by American satellites. In addition, radar confirms an object roughly 550 km wide (about 1/4 the size of the moon) heading toward Earth.
