liberal elitist
it's unfortunate that the center-left never tried to commandeer executive powers in this way -- the playbook is left on the table and our Best And Brightest are too fearful to use it
The ACLU has long warned liberal governments that the executive powers they claimed would inevitably be used by people who have radically different beliefs, including about what constitutes a proper exercise of authority. Unfortunately they rarely if ever listen. Now Kash Patel inherits it all.

modern centrists would prefer a multicultural cabal of elites writing a self-indulgent manifesto in a locked room and, i agree with you, we'd all be better off for that type of revision. unfortunately, to do that would require a civil war, which the right would win.
A bunch of greedy financiers and human traffickers writing a self-indulgent manifesto in a locked room is NOT a legitimate basis for a founding document, but the modern centrist has no desire to talk about this.

The only thing they ever want to do is fight the left and defend the status quo.

stephen colbert was a troll and stephen colbert helped us win elections
Trolling is such a profoundly sad hobby.

leftists want to just bark at this nice lady and tweet-larp about doing political assassinations while actually just worrying if their coke has fentanyl in it and if they're too old to pull 23 year olds in bushwick -- it's all so tiresome. bring back rob riggle on the daily show
I may be a “liberal” and not a leftist, but I spent years and years helping poor and homeless families into clean, safe housing. I took their kids to get registered for school when they were too traumatized to leave their beds. I chased off the gangs that were plaguing them, and got the death…

they want to save you from yourself on the first point. the second point will change when we're back to Peak Jon Stewart. just watch.
the libs don’t want you to touch the stove, they say it’s bad when you stay up past 11
November 29, 2024 at 9:24 PM
when barney stinson was the only representative of a pickup artist that anyone knew, we didn't have fifteen year old boys unironically idolizing serial rapist andrew tate. this is the magic of mass media: the whole population can understand who is better and who is worse. bring back the big 3
November 29, 2024 at 8:25 PM
no matter how insane the happening is, the center-left is not capable of creating a sustainable response to schizoposting. that's just not us. leftists can't do it either -- "CIA overthrew latin america" is logic and reason disguised as schizoposting. the center-left says, "yes, but that was good"
They are hoping we will forget about their plan.
Don't. Stop. Talking. About. Protect. 2025.
November 29, 2024 at 8:22 PM
nobody wants streaming services. everyone just wants broadcast television to come back. an important part of center-left culture is making fun of commercials. when you're just watching things you like and agree with, you're not above the media. you need to be above something.
Dear streaming services,

Just a channel that plays random Christmas episodes of user selected sitcoms.

That’s it. That’s all we want, thanks
November 29, 2024 at 8:18 PM
nobody is going to kill anyone no matter how much you type. this is why leftists and progressives will always lose. you're not haymarket rioters. they won't even shadowban you on twitter. they just don't care because they know you're done before you start. what do you want? A Media Job
liberals are like "we should have a mindful conversation with the Grinch about stakeholders and equity" he's the grinch! he's stealing your christmas presents! kill him!
November 29, 2024 at 8:14 PM
following the right's playbook is never going to work for the center-left. the center-left just needs network television programming (unifies the country into one viewing block) that's better than what's on netflix (overly ideological, no ad space) and make it cool to smugly dismiss the right.
We need to build a liberal media company repped by inspirational figures of masculinity in order to get back the young men vote. Basically an anti-joe rogan/andrew tate
November 29, 2024 at 8:10 PM
people forget that the lowest common denominator votes like they're watching a tv show. there's no "policy" logic to it. voting for obama was good because we want a black president with charisma. voting for trump was good because it seemed funny. voting for biden was good because trump got annoying.
November 29, 2024 at 8:07 PM
aoc acts like a theater kid. does not play in peoria. bernie should have never been apart from the democratic party and just spammed the "FDR/great society made america" button and then slip in the healthcare stuff on the dl. nobody actually likes elizabeth warren.
Bernie & AOC are always talking about meeting working-class voters where they are & using their language. But these two also insist on calling themselves socialists, which is a big turnoff to many working class voters. Bernie & AOC are quite elitist on this. To her credit, Warren avoids this.

this is the energy we're looking for. no pretend axis/allies games, though -- histrionics shows weakness to the bumpkin right. you want them to think you're physically a pussy but have them recognize that you're slipperier than them. no more emotion on main. the veil of smugness is our trojan horse.
Liberalism needs to be muscular and aggressive. The forces opposed to it stamped out. Merrick Garland didn't get this.
November 29, 2024 at 7:59 PM
unclear if this is the energy we're after. self-improvement has been coopted by teenage nazis slipping discs while deadlifting with horrible form. i think we're looking to be doing some quiet don-drapering with the two-buck chuck. two buck chuck? absolutely back.
For 2025, I am going to try phasing in resolutions early, one week of December at a time.

Week 1: Improve sleep. Starts Monday!

No caffine: 2pm. No alcohol: 6pm. No chow: 8pm. In bed with no screens: 10pm. Socializing can occasionally take precedent. Out of bed: 7am.
November 29, 2024 at 7:55 PM
stay strong comrade. we of the center-left will take the future. another jon stewart decade is aglow on our hazy horizon.
November 29, 2024 at 7:53 PM
this is what we're after
November 29, 2024 at 7:51 PM
a nice sentiment, but "abolitionists" and "anarchists" turn into liberals the second they see human rights being threatened in a country that isn't theirs, and we're better off for that. if you're going to fight the authoritarian right, join the radical centrists, comrade -- we'll save abortion
November 29, 2024 at 7:50 PM
we liberals are only allowed one kid of carnival freak paranoia at a time and we're certainly not going to air those paranoias in public. we're logic people, we can't do conspiracy well. WMDgate was the only exception, and that's because it was just Logic and Reason presented as a sensible concern.
“Why do rich liberals want to fund normal and functional news orgs that engage in reality instead of hurling money at a new breed of left wing carnival freaks to match the right wing carnival freak infosphere? Do they want a Freak Gap???” is, objectively, an extremely funny species of complaint
November 29, 2024 at 7:41 PM
hopefully the 2020's sees the downfall of streaming media so we can again gain a sense of unity
How many more years until the Macy’s parade is live on Netflix?
November 28, 2024 at 3:42 PM
this is the energy we want. craig finn made a fucking album called "the price of progress." craig finn played walt whitman on "the monitor." craig finn is one of our greatest living americans and we are incalculably richer for having him.
I’m at the normal stage of dad where I wake up singing “your little hoodrat friend got me high though.”
November 28, 2024 at 3:39 PM
without the direction of mass culture, marching bands will inevitably turn to fascism -- gwen stefani is a cherished leader in the fight for liberal democracy
"If we play the worst possible version of a current pop song, our art form will stay relevant!"

--marching bands
November 28, 2024 at 3:37 PM
matty, you know better than this
“Fight Song” at the Thanksgiving parade — are we back?
November 28, 2024 at 3:35 PM
1 yes; 2 no -- hide the pill in the applesauce. how did jimmy carter win an election as an anti-segregationist? lying to proles who hated black people, not by reasoning with them -- these people only know meth pipes and mcdoubles because they have been abandoned by benevolent upper class people
We need to stop two things:

1) we need to stop underestimating the right wing. They are a very real threat.

2) we need to stop patronising and dismissing very real fears raised by the working class. It's only through listening we will win people over.

Let's set an example of hope and unity.
November 28, 2024 at 3:17 PM
gentry-caste benevolence starts with the acknowledgement that we are, in fact, Better than the fentanyl-saturated biomass that makes up the Joe Briefcase types and the tact to recognize that we don't need to say it. the "Fight for 15" is never going to be sold with alliteration, but "starting 15/hr"
What if we investigated the counterfactual that the left is basically a complete dead end and that the Democratic Party’s base are in fact the people our enemies say they are (educated professionals who expect high standards of living and free expression), not who we feel we have to be (The People)
November 27, 2024 at 9:08 PM
this is the energy we need. socialists? communists? anarchists? not even a fun college party. democrats? we let it all hang out. no wet blankets. v-neck knit? uniqlo. t-shirt? free from a 5k. stubble? been putting some serious hours into the nonprofit. you do the nyt mini too? come to my run club
Anyone who thinks a bunch of folks on the left hanging out together all agree on everything and constitute some kind of echo chamber has clearly never spent any kind of time hanging out with groups of people on the left.
