I saw so many English speakers who point out that they themselves didn't speak Irish/don't engage with it themselves saying that it would be ridiculous for the Uachtarán to be anything but an Irish speaker.
I think for some there's nearly an aspirational type of Irishness to her.

I think part of Catherine Connolly's success that isn't really being covered is that she is firmly, at every turn, very proud to be Irish.
She learned Irish as an adult, she actively enjoys our cultural heritage, her campaign embraced our traditional art forms and trad music.

How come Kildare Cllr Tom McDonnell is calling for everyone to turn up to Citywest tomorrow at 5pm? When the original poster stated it was for women and children only to attend. Potentially this could end up being another riot. Be aware, and don't drag kids along either.
