Guys. Is it possible that the pro-neutrality candidate, who recognises everyone's right to a home, and is inviting carers to the Áras first... Is it possible that she actually has her finger on the pulse of Irish society? #spéirgorm

I saw so many English speakers who point out that they themselves didn't speak Irish/don't engage with it themselves saying that it would be ridiculous for the Uachtarán to be anything but an Irish speaker.
I think for some there's nearly an aspirational type of Irishness to her.

A proud and progressive Irishness.

Yes!

It honours both the need for us to shed our shame (as a country that has been occupied and oppressed) and the need for us to understand that the ways in which we have been the oppressor.
I think part of Catherine Connolly's success that isn't really being covered is that she is firmly, at every turn, very proud to be Irish.
She learned Irish as an adult, she actively enjoys our cultural heritage, her campaign embraced our traditional art forms and trad music.

Light a candle, or say a little prayer, or do both for a man who has been a remarkable public servant for most of his life.
President Michael D Higgins has spent a second night in hospital as he receives treatment for an infection.

He was admitted to St James’s Hospital on Sunday afternoon for an examination and put on a course of antibiotics.

Seriously when will the pundits move on-the story, the real story, of the election is Catherine Connolly’s amazing win-followed by the story of FFG implosion and a distant third are the spoilt votes-and of no interest to the story is the failure of far right candidates to get nominations #speirgorm

A lovely look inside some of the rooms in the Âras. The dining room is very different from the lavish huge table we saw at Trump’s visit to the British King.
With the election count over, attention is already turning to the place Ireland’s next president will soon call home — Áras an Uachtaráin, the official residence of the President.

Here's a look at where Catherine Connolly will now call home.

How come Kildare Cllr Tom McDonnell is calling for everyone to turn up to Citywest tomorrow at 5pm? When the original poster stated it was for women and children only to attend. Potentially this could end up being another riot. Be aware, and don't drag kids along either.

Is he ever not at it? Where the British Far Right lead ours follow. This would be a very provocative move here, as it is at the Al-Aqua Mosque. I admire the dignity of those confronted with these two out of the blue.
Watch | British far-right activist Tommy Robinson, falsely claiming to be Muslim, attempted to enter Al-Aqsa Mosque alongside a former Israeli politician in a staged provocation.

We’re not giving up our neutrality and we’re sure as hell not gonna be tricked into it.

Oh, and we’ll really resent any party that tries.

D’you think they’ve got the message now?
Both FG and FF had planned to run candidates supporting their moves to integrate Ireland into EU defence arrangements: Gavin and McGuinness.

One or other would win.

They would then claim to have a popular mandate.

That looks set to backfire spectacularly.
