No joke: I got angry hate mail today for writing an obituary of a Black woman scientist—because the person felt she did didn’t deserve the recognition.

Which just makes me want to share it again: www.nature.com/articles/d41...
Gladys Mae West obituary: mathematician who pioneered GPS technology
She made key contributions to US cold-war science despite facing huge barriers as a Black woman.

my go-to example is how the GOP, when they wanted to kill the ACA but didn't have the votes, didn't talk about how they looked forward to working with their Democratic colleagues to rein in the excesses of the ACA, they held one hundred votes to repeal the ACA knowing none of them could succeed.

Thread!! Read it. Follow Andrea Pitzer
Some people are asking what I want Schumer to do. He should be screaming over medical care and access to facilities. He should be going to detention facilities himself and putting his body on the line, as he did at the border in 2019. He should lean into stories about New Yorkers in detention. [1/4]

I fear I must continue discussing Brad Karp and asking questions like “did the nonsensical decisions of major corporate law firms that directly undermined legal resistance to fascism in this country last year stem from the lemmings following a guy who knew he was in the Epstein files?”

Love how the presumption here is that the President doesn't know what he's sharing and that's fine and normal.

Sorry, no, if the President doesn't know what he's sending out then that is indisputable proof of gross incompetence, cognitive unfitness, or both.
The New York Times has finally covered the Trump video of Obama as an ape — and they are still providing cover for him. Fuck the Times.

“Llamas said ‘right’ more than 30 times and ‘yeah’ more than 130 times, over the course of the interview.”
As I note in my piece, these are ACTUAL questions that NBC News's Tom Llamas asked Donald Trump in his 'extended' interview, while not asking a single question about Epstein, or challenging him on a single lie.

So gross.

Good reporting, Yale Daily News!
Yale prof David Gelernter defends his letter urging Epstein to hire "v small goodlooking blonde" student by saying that he was "keep[ing] the potential boss's habits in mind."

This creep shouldn't be allowed anywhere near students.

Watching commentators still refusing to see the white nationalism of this administration and arguingTrump is targeting Atlanta, Philadelphia and Detroit because they are blue cities is just, it’s got to be intentional at this point. There are a ton of blue cities. These are majority Black cities.

A good thing you can do about this instead of dooming is Google “how to become a poll observer in [your town]”

The White House press secretary just said she "can't guarantee" that ICE won't be around polling locations in November.

Swear to god, ICE could just announce they're leaving a city but not leave and the media will just stop covering that city completely even though ICE never left.

It's what ICE and the media did with LA and they're doing it with Minneapolis too

Good. "But DHS isn't just ICE, it's also..." nope, wrong. DHS no longer serves any useful functions, the whole thing has been reassigned to repression. FEMA isn't even paying out to states. All DHS does is shooting, teargassing, facial recognition, and administrative warrants. Shut it down.
Senate Majority Leader John Thune said Thursday that demands made by Democrats for new restrictions on federal immigration officers are “unrealistic” and warned that the Department of Homeland Security will shut down next week if they do not work with Republicans and the White House.
