Never forget: At breakneck speed we are leaving the stable Holocene climate in which human society developed and thrived. Weather extremes are outside historical experience. Sea-level rise is accelerating. Dangerous tipping points are ahead.

A Sharon Begley byline, almost 5 years after her death.

Upon hearing the news James Watson had died, a STAT reporter said in our Slack, "I wish I could read what Sharon would have written."

Incredible news: Sharon in fact did pre-write a Watson obit. And it is masterful and excoriating.

For those trying to cancel Hulu, “system is still down” (lol) on the account page but you can call or chat to cancel!
Heard from a friend at Disney+ that there are multiple levels of freakout internally, both from internal dissatisfaction, concerns about subscription cancelations, and of course the big one: concern about a boycott spilling over into parks and cruises.

So, this is a full masks-off moment right? There is a reason they never say the full name of "antifa", because all it is is being against fascism, which any decent human being is. They are essentially making it illegal to not be a fascist.
NEW: Trump is designating "Antifa" a terrorist organization (though there's no legal mechanism to do - but the law doesn't matter anymore.) He's using the Kirk murder to justify going after democrats. Those of us who read Project 2025 knew this was coming - but that provides little comfort.

Every day the Weimar Republic collapses a little more.
It's worth noting that there's already a history of revoking US passports to limit travel by leftwing activists, notably W.E.B DuBois, whose passport was revoked in 1952. Also denaturatlization, to allow deportation of citizens like Emma Goldman. thecradle.co/articles-id/...

We are a massive global outlier & our institutions are not fit for purpose.
He's right, and it's not just Brazil.

Around the world, at least 31 democratic leaders who committed similar crimes have been jailed or banned from office since 2010. The failure to hold Trump accountable in the US was a unique and systemic failure of our institutions and political culture.

A Florida Department of Transportation crew early Sunday painted the Pulse crosswalk back to black and white for a second time as supporters continued to try to restore the rainbow-colored crossing. Now, police agencies are monitoring the site.
