DOE climate report response form
We are collecting names to assemble a writing team to respond to the DOE climate working group report. If you'd like to contribute, enter your info below. At this point, there is no guarantee what we'll do (if anything), but we want to keep our options open by collecting names. If you have any further questions, feel free to email me. We are primarily looking for Ph.D. scientists at universities or government labs in appropriate fields. I realize that this will exclude some qualified people and I apologize, but we felt this was necessary for a variety of reasons.

Has anyone heard whether the NSF GRFP program will have a competition this year? I teach a class for 1st year grad students where this is a major assignment, and need to rehaul my syllabus if they’ve destroyed this program… which, I will add, will be devastating to thousands of rising student stars!

I’m thrilled to be selected as a Simons Early Career Investigator in Aquatic Microbial Ecology and Evolution! I will be digging into the mystery of nitrogen fixation our own back yard - the Monterey Bay and CA coast. I’m filled with gratitude - thank you @simonsfoundation.org for this opportunity!

This is an absolute disaster. If we don't stop this, they will turn NSF into a pawn of the Trump administration. There will be no research on climate, biodiversity, or anything that isn't eugenics or AI or how to more efficiently destroy the planet for profit.

This cannot be allowed to happen.

So true. US universities are top notch, and magnets for talent that strengthen the US economy, *because* the US made a policy decision to invest in research.

What the gov’t really does is run a competition to let university scientists compete for grant funding to do research that helps society.
Actually, flip the headline. It's really "How the Federal Government Became so Dependent on Universities."

These competitively awarded, peer reviewed research grants produce tremendous returns on investment. New tech, health, science that benefit all people & businesses in the USA & world.

This is mindblowing disruption. This new US executive order orders an immediate review of all *existing* federal grants & contracts & also freezes all federal credit cards. The federal gov funds a huge amount of science & it will all stop while this plays out.

It's a cyanobacteria on the outside, fungus on the inside.

Well, sort of. The fungus lives in the extracellular sheath produced by the Cyanobacteria, and therefore are not really true endophytes. But the cyanos do create the external structure.

When Trump was sworn in, Elon Musk's corporations were under more than 32 investigations conducted by at least 11 federal agencies.

Most of the cases are now closed or likely to be closed soon, and the federal agencies are being defanged by DOGE.

Funny how that works, huh?
