An intriguing new species of deep-sea worm 'fishing worm', Melinnopsis nathanieli, has been described from the dark, cold depths of the NE Atlantic, southwest of Ireland. 🪱🎣

This is the first new polychaete (bristle worm) species described from the site for a decade.

This project uses acoustic and fingerprinting techniques to identify ocean processes and provide an unprecedented view of the deep N Atlantic from existing cables.

New species of deep-sea coral found living on polymetallic nodules. 🪨🪸

A team of international scientists have recently discovered a deep-sea coral is are specially adapted to live at depth, in complete darkness, and whose only known habitat is attached to the nodules.
