It was great to hear more about the government’s plans for English devolution. At @noc.ac.uk we are acting locally in providing exciting opportunities that are of national and international significance. Devolution could unlock even more of that potential for Southampton and wider region.
NOC welcomed @jimmcmahon.co.uk, Minister of State for Local Government and English Devolution in the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government as part of a visit to Southampton to discuss the Government's devolution plans in the area.

🌊 Today in @nature.com: Is the AMOC on the brink of collapse?

Unlikely before 2100—but the risks are real 🚨

We find Southern Ocean winds keep this vital ocean "heat engine" running, even under extreme #climatechange. But the Pacific holds a surprise…

Imagine the moment when someone said - you know what, why don’t we stick sensors in orbit around the earth to measure our environment. And satellite remote sensing was born.

Could this be as transformational? An exciting prospect.
Full Ocean Fibre, a new project enabled by funding from @aria-research.bsky.social, will target the use of undersea cables as seafloor sensors to help further our knowledge of the deep ocean. 🔌

🌊 Excellent that parliamentarians are taking the #Ocean and the critical role of data seriously. Ultimately sustainable ocean observations are so important and having them must be, as they say, in our national data objectives.
💬 The latest APPG for the Ocean meeting took place earlier this week with the focus being on the subject of Data and Artificial Intelligence (AI).

Sir David Attenborough says it so eloquently. The biggest threat to security and prosperity is the challenge of a changing climate. We need to make sure that message is heard by everyone.
The devastation on its way is unimaginable - like nothing humanity has ever witnessed before - and everyone will wish they had been climate activists and ‘hysterics’ when they had the chance. We are in a moment of unprecedented stupidity
