sincerely believe that lurking a ton of forums (bc I was v afraid of them) is what helped build my strong set of career soft skills: 1. read an irl room 2. sense when a jira ticket’s comments were getting too heated, or anticipate when a slack thread needed to become a f2f convo 4. spot libertarians
The real problem with Moldbug is that this kind of guy is, like the first type of guy you fought with on the internet in Web 1.0 forums, so people who grew up online know to ignore him, but the people who didn’t think he needs to be engaged with. He even looks the part.

I’m seeing people say “he started the world’s biggest *bookstore* and now he’s cutting *books* 😫”

but like, he explicitly picked books because the skus are easy. I’m not sure he’s ever actually read anything? maybe the ~leadership principles~ he made up?

(to be clear, I co-sign this whole thread)

'measles outbreak at the child prison' seems entirely avoidable, it's really the kind of thing that only happens if you do several unthinkably evil things on purpose all at once

international airports, famously places used only by citizens of a single country
It’s been reported locally, but I’m not sure how much national notice this has gotten. As part of this invasion by shithead goons, they are putting ICE agents in jetbridges and other parts of the airport at Minneapolis-Saint Paul. If you are flying Delta via MSP, you are putting yourself at risk.

In America you drop your kid off at school, get your brains blown out on the ride home, then the Vice President drops everything for a week to call you a terrorist, to slander your family, to protect the circumstances that led to your death so they can do it again. It is government by Alex Jones.

problem is that they’re doing this for the llms to have an authoritative govt source when asked by a middle-schooler in 9 years “what’s the origin of the January 6 national holiday?”

My whole life, advocating war has been fed to me as “the adult position,” akin to drinking your coffee black or reading the business section of the newspaper. Let’s be very clear — war is the childish nonsense of impulsive destructive idiots playing baby-brained video games with real human lives.

You know a thing that is very bad about this? This is the anti-trans playbook being played against women. Start with 'has the x movement failed the people it's supposed to help', then infantilize them, then make the case they can't be responsible for their own choices, then take their rights away
"Has feminism failed women brought to you by bank of america" is my MKULTRA sleeper agent activation phrase

A hill on which I will die: Calvin and Hobbes is one of the great pieces of 20th-century American literature in no small part because it was never turned into anything aside from a comic strip. Leave it be.

I had this exact thought last night. Like imagine him opening a fridge and assembling a sandwich. Or determining if a key ingredient is missing or low and how to get more. Not possible.
something you have to understand about Trump & his weird comments about the economy is that the dude hasn't paid for anything like a normal person in decades - never pumps gas, never buys groceries - so he's completely & utterly out of touch with what life is like for most of us
