A pretty impressive reflection on the intersection of architecture and liberation (and resistance to neo-classical forms of "beauty" as a coded and exclusionary ideal).

And a gorgeous video too!

I appreciate the geopolitical implications of paper: indigenous population highly adapted to their unique marine homeland and polynya. Less excited that this is somehow a population of extremist who pushed the boundaries of the known and the unknown (more in media coverage than actual paper).

"... The Delbert Anderson Quartet, which doesn’t operate like a typical 'band', but moves like a circle. It’s four people listening hard, trading responsibility, letting the music expose the truth and raw emotions of the moment."

"Following Modersohn-Becker’s early death, Rilke wrote a mournful poem titled 'Requiem for a Friend,' lamenting, 'It troubles me that you should stray back, you, who have achieved more transformation than any other woman.'"

Some of the same in English:

A great year to see Modersohn-Becker’s work! Germans must make everything cosmolitan, but her undeniable strength is in being a fantastically intimate regional painter, which is why her landscapes and portraints against natural backdrops have this mad pull taz.de/Erste-Maleri...

"Thinking about [visual artists engaging with history and science] feels quite organic to me. It feels nice to be in a world where you get to see someone thinking in real time about creating for the world, thinking deeply about the implications, and trying to create a legacy for how to do better."

A baby roughskin newt on moss; an old photo. One of many moved off the road over the years, as they migrate from natal ponds to the winter forest to forage. Somewhere I have a video of this little one's climb from my hand up the rock to this summit.

Kozaburo Yoshimura’s "Undercurrent" is one of the most visually stunning 20th c. films, despite the melodrama. Every frame's a gem, & such a cool take on the tradition vs. modernity plot. Kyozome textile designer makes a pattern based on her geneticist paramour's drosophilae research--gorge!

“The album title, borrowed from a fragment of Pessoa, suits this collection perfectly. Dora’s journey through Portugal involved concerts, residencies, and extensive field recording, capturing waves from the Atlantic, voices in the streets, and songs escaping from a park.”
Delphine Dora's "D'une nostalgie inconnue" feels ageless. Improvised piano and harmonium from rural Portugal, interlaced with street recordings. Languid repetitions, solemn timbres. Beautiful and forlorn. Read a new interview on Foxy Digitalis w/ her about it and loads more!
