usually if you ask experts why an empire fell they’ll say it’s nuanced and multifaceted, so i think it’s kind of cool that with America future historians will get to just say like “oh they took the idiot train to moronsville”

To me, this is the most remarkable thing about global health: With a relatively small amount of money, you can do a great deal of good for a great many people. This is money well spent, and we should go back to spending it—now.

man it’s gonna be a police state but of people who were too stupid to be police

They’ve destroyed American medical research, the American education system, the American university research system, and the aid system that protected millions of lives, and they’ve given our anti-immigrant masked paramilitary police force a budget the size of a nation

If the GOP bill passes, a lot of folks who have grandma in a nursing home will need to take her back home. Do voters across the rural states this will impact the most understand that?

It's called autogenocide, the goal is to coerce a population into killing themselves and/ or die by design. When MAGA and Trump strip people of their healthcare or safety nets, they aren't thinking about saving money they're thinking about how many of us they can exterminate. #3E #EndAutogenocide

Per @npr.org, the Department of Homeland Security, in partnership with the White House U.S. DOGE Service, has built a searchable national citizenship register with data from the Social Security Administration & immigration records— without public notice & comment.
Infrastructure for a police state.
The Trump administration is building a national citizenship data system
The Department of Homeland Security, with help from DOGE, has rolled out a tool that purports to be able to check the citizenship status of almost all Americans.

I just want to say I watched your speech on the floor of the Senate earlier and it brought tears to my eyes—especially this part:

"I don't understand this obsession with taking health insurance away from people. What is the cruelty that drives this?"

Thank you for that.

If the Supreme Court thinks universal injunctions are unconstitutional, to wait until *now* to say that, in this of all cases, with this of all presidents, is a devastating indictment of both its impartiality and its prudence.
June 27, 2025 at 11:15 PM
BREAKING: if the Supreme Court wants a class action to hold Trump's birthright citizenship unconstitutional nationwide, we will give them one!

We @democracydefendersaction.org just filed with our wonderful partners @aclu.org, NAACP LDF, LULAC & more

There is a deep, foul irony in the majority writing that universal injunctions are an improper intrusion into the functioning of another branch of government when SCOTUS literally JUST IMPOSED ITS WILL ON THE PEOPLE without the people ever being heard.

In addition to the racism, also want to point out some rando politician from Tennessee should not be interfering in the affairs of NYC, ever.

John Roberts has finally produced his own Dred Scott decision. He must be so proud of what he has wrought.

Historians will indeed remember Roberts.
In infamy. I wonder if he hears that in his social life, in his fawning rightwing cocktail party circles.
New in PN: SCOTUS clears the path for Trump's network of global gulags

"With one paragraph, the Court undercut lower court judges and consigned countless immigrants to be renditioned to a system of gulags. It will have lasting corrosive effects on American civil society and respect for the courts."

This is a Hall of Fame reader comment on a very reactionary op-ed about Zohran Mamdani's victory that was published in my local paper today.

Lots going on in the world right now but please don’t forget they’re going to try and jam one of the largest transfers of wealth from working families to the richest corporations through the Senate this week.

From ushering in Citizens United to granting presidents broad immunity, no one in the capital is more responsible for Trump’s destructive 2nd term than the Supreme Court’s chief justice

Don’t fall for “it’s just security.” Security without transparency is oppression in disguise. Demand to know who’s operating in your name. Because once masked power becomes normal...it’s almost impossible to roll back. 5/5

It’s a good thing Congress isn’t alive to see this
June 22, 2025 at 2:15 AM
The authority to wage war rests with Congress. This impeachable action is the reckless behavior of a man granted near-total immunity who feels unleashed to do anything.
