This week's tea newsletter is about a tea I got that my mom can drink, a movie my dad made me watch as a child, and the total lack of a shared unifying belief in the United States.

7 years later and I still whisper, “We’re disabled, Daniel, not werewolves” to myself like a sacred mantra whenever I see a non-disabled person discover ableism like it’s the latest hipster indie band.

This week, in our most intimidating project yet, we spend two recording sessions and three hours exploring Nowhere as we attempt to unpack the dense oppositional layers of truth and fiction, heroism and monstrosity, sacrifice and selfishness underlying Fire and Hemlock

Fuck it, can’t sleep, rereading Fire and Hemlock. I’d forgotten how early in the story DWJ absolutely punches you in the face with the whole-ass premise.

ASIDE: I will absolutely sign up for having a scientist come by to poke me with needles and tape sensors to me every goddamn day for the next year.

I'm doing the best science I can on my own, but a) I have no control group, b) my methodology is sloppy, and c) I miiiiight be biased.

Whilst this is about fat phobia, if that doesn’t ALSO sum up how disabled people are treated by society, I don’t know what does. Doubly so for being fat AND disabled.

Nailed it in one, @deathbybadger.bsky.social 👏

the em dash has grown in popularity over the last 20 years or so and is thus over represented in the data sets they trained the fraud machine on and now we are supposed to tell people to stop using them because they were finding them useful, it's idiocy all the way down
Dashes are very normal parts of written English and are "AI tells" mostly because they were left off default keyboard configurations and thus are annoying to type in casual writing relative to how often they're used in professional writing.

This is true. But we also don’t complain because we don’t want to constantly be complaining. Who wants to live like that? Also this is so much our norm that pointing it out can sometimes feel like pointing out the fact that you’re breathing. But yeah, our disabilities are still real.
“But you don’t look sick!”

Many disabilities are invisible. It doesn’t make them any less real.

We’ve also been conditioned by society to hide our pain.

People don’t want a reminder of chronic illness & disability. They want us to sell them the comfortable lie. To say we’re “fine”

We’re not fine
