again going to my bench of favorite complaints: it is weird how openly predatory US culture is and it would be good to have a government that feels some semblance of responsibility for people's wellbeing

tech companies have been anti-consumer for years now but never have i seen them commit to the complete rot of AI integrated technology despite the pushback and annoyance of the general public,
iPhone sales are down after they focus on AI instead of something people want. But Microsoft went all in on AI for Windows 11, they must be doing well—

They’re losing market share to windows 10, their own operating system that’s 9 years old.

Why I am fine with Eat the Rich:

Jeff Bezos announcing that he's marrying his next wife, Lauren Sanchez, in a lavish $600m ceremony. They live in Florida. $600m would cover 2 years of FL k-12 free lunch programs. Last year the state discontinued the office that helped schools file for free lunches.

people were so grateful for the polio vaccine he invented that they kind of ruined jonas salk's life for a while. he couldn't eat at restaurants without being interrupted. hotels upgraded him to the penthouse suite without asking. airline pilots would announce when he boarded so people could clap
The lawyer helping Robert F. Kennedy Jr. pick federal health officials for the incoming Trump administration has petitioned the government to revoke its approval of the polio vaccine, which for decades has protected millions of people from a virus that can cause paralysis or death.
Kennedy’s Lawyer Has Asked the F.D.A. to Revoke Approval of the Polio Vaccine
Aaron Siri, who specializes in vaccine lawsuits, has been at Robert F. Kennedy Jr.’s side reviewing candidates for top jobs at the Department of Health and Human Services.

Zero reward for the white supremacist killer who murdered a teen in Manhattan the same day. Yeremi Colino does not matter to these people.

this guy wore a mask and didn't keep his cell phone on him when he fled and as a result a police department that is itself one of the largest armed forces and intelligence agencies on planet earth is completely flummoxed
One of the NYPD brass said “this isn’t blue bloods” when explaining they can’t just immediately find the guy and I like that years of copaganda have set standards cops can’t meet and might be contributing to people’s correct perception that cops don’t effectively stop crime or find killers.

Unfortunately seems likely that rather than change their ways, America’s CEOs will just hire private armies to protect them from the public they exploit. Every day we’re one step closer to living in a Neal Stephenson novel

He wasn't "someone." Separating the ills of the health insurance industry (which absolutely kills a lot of people in this country every year) from the very people who run it is a big part of the problem. It creates an abstraction that favors the industry, makes no one accountable.
We can all hate insurance companies without cheering the murder of someone or worse, trying to monetize content about that murder.

Really gross day on the internet today.

Trucks have been getting bigger, more energy & space consuming, more polluting, and much deadlier to everyone around them including kids. Not because most of us actually need bigger vehicles, but as ego boosts, status symbols & “indicators of male virility.” Note the truck bed is basically the same.
