I'm agog! FORTS is one of @usatoday.com's bestselling #picturebooks this week!

Thank you to all the indie bookstores who believe in this book and have been sharing it with their customers. ❤️💙📚

shopping for jeans and I'm BEGGING online retailers to give us more information than "look, my fingers can fit in the pockets" in the photos. I want to see videos of women piling stuff in there before I buy. Phones, keys, index cards, bubbly water, produce... How many apples can fit in the pockets?

"Is it a bug or is it a feature?"

I am so honored and humbled that the Dolly Parton Imagination Library selected my picture book FORTS to be one of the books sent to hundreds of thousands of children this year. This is the greatest professional honor I could hope for.

My kid asked to rewatch Princess Bride. I think we all know what I said to that.

a perennially good read
Looking forward to watching the #ALAYMA this morning and cheering for my colleagues! And like always - I'm sharing my poem "What Happened to Your Book Today." A reminder of why we make books for young readers. ❤️https://katemessner.com/what-happened-to-your-book-today-a-poem-for-after-the-ala-awards/

I haven't gotten any calls today (yet) from the "real" ALA about Cassini's Mission, but this was some joyful news regarding a kid version of the Sibert Smackdown! Also, kidlit writers should totally follow Katie's blog (link in OP). It's a terrific home to follow what kids actually like to read.
Taking a moment for joy: Monday is #ALAYMA . My 5th graders have spent the past two months reading and analyzing their favorite nonfiction books for @mstewartscience.bsky.social 's #SibertSmackdown .

Our winner? CASSINI'S MISSION by @katievenit.bsky.social & @jbdrawsthings.bsky.social !

“The doctor” is such a palate cleanser after “calypso”.
Calypso felt 100% to me to be aimed at parents. “Here’s how to encourage creativity without telling kids what to do.”
“Doctor” was the opposite. The parents removed themselves and the kids encouraged their own creativity

“Yoga ball”
Why is the dad dog’s office full of dinosaur bones? Has he secretly been a paleontologist this whole time? Do dinosaurs exist in this world? Feels like that should be a more developed storyline.

Spent this whole episode expecting Bingo to hurl.

#bluey binging: “Spy Game”

I appreciate showing adults having fun without the adults, glad to see that antipodal kids also play potions, and “hurry up, I can feel my sausages burning” is a proper good line.

Hey parents: did you know you don't need to do your kids' laundry? As soon as they can reach the buttons, they can do their own laundry.

#twin soapbox: There's this content creator posting skits. He's video chatting with either some random guy or his boss, and a woman comes onscreen and the first guy is like, WTF, why are you there or you're his wife I thought you were divorced? etc., and it escalates into this huge conflict...

I'm SO EXCITED to again volunteer at my local #library for Family Fort Night, in which families come after hours and build forts in the stacks. But this year, I ALSO get to read them my book, Forts.

This is a great post that describes the programming. It's a must do!
