She/her. Everything is more complicated than that. I volunteer with Carl Brandon Society, Clarion West, Otherwise. I walked Hadrian's Wall a few years ago. I read a lot. I sew a lot. I garden a little. My grandchildren are old enough to vote. I digress.

This year, we've put together a series of book lists featuring works by Clarion West alumni and instructors that may speak to some part of what we need right now. Today we highlight the dystopia of it all.

Some years ago, Alma's career was going well. She made substantial scholarship donations to Clarion West. Scholarship funds were scarce then. Her donations made a huge difference to those students, to the workshop as a whole.

Can the writing community step up for her now?

Trump has now conducted 28 boat strikes, killing over 100 people.

Remember: no judge or jury has found these boats were trafficking drugs. We're simply taking Trump's word for it.

He’s unilaterally acting as judge, jury, and executioner.

This is a danger to us all.

Please read and share this piece. This study is an ethical nightmare, run by a Danish couple who’ve built their careers on decades of exploitative, shoddy research in this community.

It will have permanent consequences for many children enrolled, & for broader trust in foreign biomedical research.

Did someone take away the Sharpie so he couldn't draw mustaches and horns on the presidents he hates?
Per @garretthaake.bsky.social, the extremely tacky "presidential wall of fame" that lines the colonnade to the West Wing now has obviously-Trump-penned plaques insulting or praising the presidents.

Why are so many senators, congressmembers, presidents, and vice-presidents so ignorant of so many things these days?
COLLINS: Do you disagree with Trump's pardon of the former Honduran leader who was also indicted and convicted?

RICK SCOTT: I don't -- I never -- I never met the guy and I don't know anything about it

COLLINS: But do you approve of that pardon?

SCOTT: I don't know much about it

COLLINS: Ok

Trade paperbacks are lovely, but I cannot put them in my pocket. Ebooks are fine, but I cannot read them in the bathtub.
What? NOOOOOOOOOOO. The mass market paperback is the best kind of book!

This sucks, and suggests physical books are going to become an expensive prestige thing like vinyl records. Ereaders are fragile and centrally controlled. Paper books are just better.
What a loss. Mass market paperbacks are the ideal novel format.

Fiddler on the roof, but with ICE agents playing the part of Cossacks. I know people think of Fiddler as a heartwarming story about a funny man doing Ya-ba-dibba-dibbas, but it's literally about pogroms like this
Masked men wearing ICE vests—but who refused to present a warrant or identify themselves—roped off a construction site, trapping two men on a roof for hours in subzero temps. Protesters gathered. Masked men eventually left, and one man on the roof was taken away by ambulance kstp.com/kstp-news/to...

I have no idea if Calibri is actually more accessible or not, but that's not the point. The regime's message is that accessibility itself is wasteful and wrong. The regime is repeatedly saying that people who can't meet their narrow standards for physical/mental abilities should be left behind.
