This right here. I've been saying for a long time--if you use AI, you're a scab. Full stop. You crossed the picket line, and I have just as little respect for you as other scabs.
Treat a published work that was later divulged to be AI-generated the same way you would if you found out it was manually plagiarized from a different book. Same situation, just the plagiarism has been automated and averaged out a bit, and the plagiarist is also a scab and a cultural arsonist.

Oh sorry, one more
I would not ever take the output of any software translation as accurate. Even excluding hallucinations (and that's a big exclude), what you're not getting from it is context dependent meanings (like homophones, idioms, slang, etc). Fastest way to accidentally insult someone

My brother’s job is at risk. He’s recently taken second and third part time jobs because his work writing subtitles for German TV is dwindling not because demand is down but because they’re trying to replace him with AI. Real people are losing their livelihoods just so the rich can be richer.
Deep breath
Ok I'm going to try and stay calm
But I'll point out that AI translation is literally causing translators to be fired (see the whole Harlequin line in France)

And genre romance readers can smell your derision! We are hyper aware of anyone trying to profit off us without wanting to play by genre rules. Why should *we* make room for those authors when they don't want to be seen at our party? so YOU can feel better about liking that HEA?

LitFic authors aren't going to admit that they are writing romance because they act like genre romance is for idiots and for bad readers and it's all garbage mommy porn.

In other words, "Literary romance" doesn't exist because of the snobbery of capital-L literature.

My personal feeling is that if there is a part of my fiction that feels super boring to write, it is probably going to be boring for my reader and I need to step up my game.

It doesn't mean that it's going to be a breeze; often the opposite.

Collateral knowledge is one of the best parts of research!

So many of my best conversations are born out of collateral knowledge I picked up from a brief hyperfixation, and it forms a bridge to such a wide group of people and ideas to have those sorts of connections!

I’m in the middle of final revisions on my latest book. It comes out in April. The MMC is a boxer. Guess what I know absolutely *nothing* about? Boxing. Guess what else? I have not used AI once in *any* aspect of writing it. 1/n

Making art is not all joy and fungus reanimated bunnies! That’s okay. That’s normal. That’s part of why art is important and also why artists and writers need to be paid for their work. If you keep dragging yourself back even when it’s hard, you’re doing fine.

If anyone ever accuses romance authors of not being "serious" writers, I would argue that I've never met a group of people more focused on the concrete logistics of growing and maintaining their careers.

This. We see you.
there are people out there making disappointing arguments right now and I'm not going to go start a fight with them because I am protecting my own peace.

but you are not being clever when you try to parse shit like this. you just look... very very silly.

Yup. We're cooked. End of an era. Both for our country and for me at my day job. Kinda hard to keep working somewhere if there's NO WORK.

I used to get reviews themed "the main character is rude to staff, DNF I don't read unlikeable characters" and Bethany has probably killed more people than the fucking plague.

IMO her being rude is the least of her issues.

So if that's your thing 😅

I love this book.
Dinah Lewis writes quieter romances about friendships and community.

First Impressions is my take on a modern Pride and Prejudice story.

This one got me a lot of hate mail. I read them all. They were excellent, esp the ones saying "written with the pen of Satan."
