Journalists - if the person you are all trying to question insults one of your peers and them comes to you, the only reasonable response is to defer back to the insulted journo or to repeat their question. It’s not just about integrity - our main job is to make sure difficult questions are answered

This from @stephenkb.bsky.social cuts to the heart of the matter. Does the government not understand how toxic this argument is? Do they think they can somehow weaponise it? The last governments at least had the merit not of making this kind of foul claim.

Abandoning the ECHR has hee haw to do with migrants. It has all to do with decimating workers, tenants and anyone who gets in the way of multi millionaires making money.
No job security, no housing security. No maternity or sick pay
Hire and refire at will.

The stupidity of Farage’s latest ‘plan’ is staggering.
Claiming they’d save British taxpayers money by ripping up international commitments and starting a trade war with Europe is the puerile foot-stamp of a party that uses prejudice as policy. Ruinous nonsense.

Reform would ‘cut benefits for EU nationals and hike NHS immigration surcharge’
Party claims its policies would eliminate ‘black hole’ Rachel Reeves faces in the budget – but Labour says the ‘fantasy numbers don’t add up’

A major problem for a government with an essentially performative policy approach is that it encourages / incentivises all other parties to so the same thing - what’s the point in being substantive if the actual government (whose competitive advantage should be governing) can’t be bothered…?

Quick interview with Nick Ferrari on LBC this morning, trying to briefly explain why Labour's latest anti-asylum proposals are all but guaranteed to actually make things worse for not only this seeking asylum, but in everything which this government claims they are tackling.

The Home Secretary says "we have become the destination of choice in Europe, clearly visible to every people smuggler and would-be illegal migrant across the world"

That is a factually untrue claim: the Home Office shows that the UK is fifth, getting 1/10 claims, while Germany gets 1/5 claims

As Labour proposes limiting the protection of the ECHR, we must remember what it was set up to do; protect us all from abuses of power by our govts.
Be v wary then of anyone calling to do that. You may not be the target now. But why shouldn’t you be next?

Today has been a massive victory for anti-migrant voices.

Not only is Labour doing 90% of what they want, but they're also making it much easier for them to get the remaining 10% later

People.
The adverb is 'publicly'.

Public-ly.

This is because the adjective is 'public', NOT 'publical'.

Thank you.

Sickening rhetoric by Home Secretary. Denying access to human rights isn't "protecting the public". This is Labour further demonising those seeking asylum in language very reminiscent of the far right. Yes, some break the law, so should be prosecuted within the law. Removing rights is not the answer

A viral online video, which claims to show "Ukrainian soldiers" threaten to kill Charlie Kirk's wife Erika Kirk, is fake.

Not only do the "soldiers" in the clip speak Ukrainian with a notably strong Russian accent, but it has hallmarks of a Russian disinformation campaign known as Storm-1516.

Not just in Glasgow. Happens up here too.

Mainstream schools are not built to have quiet spaces on hand. That’s what happens with inclusion, you put a load of kids in an environment that’s overwhelming and there is nowhere for them to escape to when they need a break.

Jo Cox’s art is a true delight, imbued with the magic of the English countryside. I’m not reposting this in order to “win” one of her prints, but because all output from this talented family is worth discovering and sharing.
I have two - TWO - of these gorgeous original A4 meadow hare linoprints by my mum, Jo, to give away to a couple of lucky people here on Bluesky today.

Rules are simple: to be in with a chance to win, you just have to repost this piece I wrote about Jo and her art: www.tom-cox.com/the-magic-ro...
