'And mostly it was about the wedding. It's *different* for royalty. For one thing, you've already got everything. The traditional wedding list with the complete set of Tupperware and the twelve-piece dining set looks a bit out of place when you've already got a castle with so many furnished rooms that have been closed up for so long, that the spiders have evolved into distinct species in accordance with strict evolutionary principles. And you can't simply multiply it all up and ask for An Army in a Red and White Motif to match the kitchen wallpaper. They've been flogging that particular stupidity for over fifty years. I remember seeing things like this in waiting-room magazines as a kid (from 1971):

The actual language of the ministerial Regulations on education for 'handicapped' children, required by S33(1)EA[1944] and set out in Min. of Ed. pamphlet no.5 (share.google/CO5z1XKRonXO...) is far, far worse than merely 'ineducable'.

Paragraph 50 of 'Special Educational Treatment', concerning 'ineducable' children: 50. All degrees of retardation may be found among educable children, from the minimum indicated above to a maximum which may be as much as 50 per cent, where the child can do school work only as difficult as that done by average children half his age. In the case of a child who cannot do this after he has had the appropriate special educational treatment, the question arises whether he is educable at school at all. Upon the answer to this question the success of the arrangements for special educational treatment to some extent depends. If ineducable children are retained either in special schools or ordinary schools not only is it impossible to teach them, but they also take up an undue share of their teachers' time and energy. Moreover, children with so low a degree of ability often have undesirable social and personal characteristics, and even appearance. It is not fair either to the other children or to their parents to make them associate with ineducable children. Section 57 of the Act details the procedure to be followed by an authority when they think that any child cannot be educated at school. It is worth pointing out that he may be deemed to be incapable of receiving education at school not only if he is himself ineducable, but also if, in his own interests and the interests of the other children, it is inexpedient that he should be associated with them in any type of school.

Yep. See Naomi, my friend's 'little big' sister, who got no schooling until after the passage of the 1970 Act.

(And, having been let down by education in her childhood, Naomi was let down by health and social care as an older adult, dying of Covid, alone in hospital, early in the first lockdown.)
