"Storytelling is the origin of everything that makes us human" - Adam Savage
In Discovery's first two episodes, the Klingons activate a bright beacon, which an officer on the USS Shenzhou describes as being, and I quote: 1 million lumens per square.

Which is fucking insane!

The sun, as seen on Earth is between 127,000 and 98,000 lumens per square (depending on elevation)

last month I was nearly banned from FB marketplace with just one warning because a meta AI thought i was posting counterfeit sneakers, and when I tried to appeal the decision, it was impossible to speak to a human
Instagram’s former head of safety and well-being Vaishnavi Jayakumar testified the company had a “17x” strike policy for accounts that engaged in the trafficking of humans for sex.

“You could incur 16 violations and upon the 17th violation, your account would be suspended"

7 Allegations Against Meta in Newly Unsealed Filings
Court filings allege Meta tolerated sex trafficking, hid harms to teens, and prioritized growth over user safety for years.

The Washington Post editorial board decided the Epstein files have “no public interest” before even seeing them. That’s a stunning position for any newsroom to take. Praising Clay Higgins as the lone ‘no’ vote, too? No wonder no one trusts legacy media. Absolutely disgusting.

Discovery's aesthetic really doesn't fit with a TOS aesthetic. It's not really a TOS prequel.

But, even though 2256 is a lot closer to 2266 than it is 2155, the aesthetic does fit in with Enterprise, it very much feels more like an Enterprise sequel.
Going from Enterprise to Short Treks to The Cage to Discovery is fucking wild.

And yet it strangely still fits together

Even more incentive to avoid Domino's, on top of it being some of the worst pizza I've ever had
Domino’s Pizza prices are going up — because the company wants to increase profits. Which part of that isn’t price gouging?
Would you like inflation with that? Pumping up pizza prices to punish households

There's a pattern in games, particularly lower budget ones, where the first game is basically a proof of concept with the sequel fully realising the concept.

Just something I've noticed

Peak Xbox. I was once a PlayStation fangirl, but having been introduced to the OG Xbox and Halo, my allegiance shifted to Xbox, so when the 360 came out I was all on board. Even did attended a midnight launch for the console.
20 years since the Xbox 360 launched today. What a time to be alive that was 🙏

(government minister reading a report on the thousandth clinical drug trial of a pill that eliminates poverty, with a 100% success rate, that generates 10 times the value it costs to produce & makes government ministers public heroes) I don't understand, so the poor are made to suffer how, exactly?
There has literally never been a universal basic income trial program that didn't deliver real and measurable results above and beyond any other form of social welfare, and every time another concludes with the same findings the powers that be go "interesting! Anyway," and pretend it wouldn't work.

My belly is round
People were arguing in my mentions today about whether the Earth is "round" when it's technically an irregular oblate spheroid and look "round" doesn't mean "absolutely perfect sphere" it means round. A soccer ball is round, a cantaloupe is round, a fluffy borb in winter is round, just go with it.

Trans people have exhaustively detailed the links between the anti-trans and anti-abortion movements, we warned that transphobia was a wedge issue for the religious right to roll back women's rights, only for us to be ignored, and of course UK TERFs are setting their sights on abortion.
Kathleen Stock has written an article against "abortion permissiveness". She claims abortion requires "justification" saying the state should limit "unacceptable decision-making" by women about their own bodies.

This is who anti-trans activists proclaim as the feminist thought leaders of our time.

Trawling social media feels dream-like. In dreams your brain is bouncing from partially formed idea to partially formed idea, never really truly engaging with anything; a collection of random thoughts, images and sensations.

It's no wonder it's fucked society. Ppl weren't meant to live in dreams
