The igniter in my oven gave out today after a while of threatening to. It managed to ignite after an hour of being on and so I just barely got to bake this pear tart I had been working on since Sunday. The igniter is now definitely dead and the technician can't come until Friday. Baker's nightmare.

I'm grading essays and in the last week I've typed "This is not a Chicago Style citation. Chicago uses either footnotes or endnotes, not in-text parenthetical citations" so many times that it doesn't even sound like real sentences anymore.

(Yes, I gave resources for how to cite in Chicago style.)

I'm starving just reading this.
Publishing garbage like this is actively harmful. Great that this works for Nestle, but most of us need more than a few hundred calories a day to survive. This isn't healthy.
For more than three decades, Marion Nestle has been telling people what to eat. She has always done her own thing and at age 89, Nestle is still going strong.

Find out what she eats — and avoids — in a typical day here: https://wapo.st/4ooStty

Cuomo was drummed out of office 4 years ago for sexual harassment. He then lost the mayoral Dem primary. He then employed rank gutter racism to win as an independent -- winning Trump's endorsement! -- and that didn't work either. Few modern politicians so richly deserve obscurity and exile.

Hello from Miami, where a non-Latina Democrat is by far the frontrunner in a crowded mayor's race. The city hasn't elected a Dem for mayor since 1993. Same for a non-Cuban.

Runoff election is on December 9th, and it's expected to start garnering national attention.

I'm happy that Mamdani won. But I won't let that get in the way of my celebrating Cuomo losing.

Teen Vogue has produced some of the strongest and most important political journalism of the past few years.

This is a monstrous development. I am so sorry for everyone.
I was laid off from Teen Vogue today along with multiple other staffers, and today is my last day.

certainly more to come from me when the dust has settled more, but to my knowledge, after today, there will be no politics staffers at Teen Vogue.

Note to self, if you have a job that requires a lot of concentration and you don't do well with distractions, maybe think about it really hard before moving a cross the street from a school again.

I thought it might be helpful to know which publications the AI articles I list are from, so spent part of the weekend adding that info. A slew of new links to the bibliography too: catherinedenial.org/blog/uncateg...

I guess pastries and coffee are Gen Z's avocado toast.
“At the same time, more than half of Gen Z members say they are struggling to make ends meet, yet a majority buy themselves a small treat, such as a pastry, coffee, or sweet, at least once a week. That can lead to overspending…”

Being a woman on the internet is wild. I made a comment on a colonial apologist Instagram post over 18 weeks and I'm still getting notified daily of people, mostly men, responding to me. The hate comments and the misogyny are wild. Sadly, there's no way to silence these notifications. So annoying

I wrote 170 words towards an article from new material today, which isn't a lot, but considering how much (little) I've written in a while, it's something.

I had forgotten how difficult it is to start a project pretty much from scratch.
