and I feel like we were steadily heading in that direction for a half century (as i type on a shard of glass) and then this dude showed up, and a few other dudes like him, and now we’re in the mirror universe where people are trying to bring back slaves.

This is bonkers.
A few months ago, ICE hired me

I didn't sign and submit any paperwork. I almost certainly failed the drug test. I'm real outspoken about my opposition to the Trump administration, and I am extremely googlable

And yet, there it was, in plain English. "Welcome to ICE!"

You’ve Heard About Who ICE Is Recruiting. The Truth Is Far Worse. I’m the Proof.
What happens when you do minimal screening before hiring agents, arming them, and sending them into the streets? We're all finding out.

#skystorian friends, I'm looking for some computer game recommendations. I haven't gamed in a long time but I need a new way to spend my time. Many moons ago, I used to love CivCity Rome and would love to find something like that. I've tried Sid Meier's Civilization V but couldn't get into it.

This semester I'm teaching two sections of the same class so I merged them on Canvas and assigned discussion groups so students didn't have to wade through 90+ posts. I don't think it's working well. People wait til the last minute to post so early posters have fewer posts to interact with. Catch 22

I was putting together a short reading list for my students on genAI in education and there was a comment in this article that really resonated with me for a few reasons. It's a long comment, but it closes with "Using AI in school is like using a forklift at the gym."

This war and extra-judicial kidnapping is patently illegal and unconstitutional. Political leaders on both sides must condemn it. It’s not about whether Maduro is a tyrant but whether the US is still governed by laws and the Constitution. As if this morning, we are clearly not.

It's a hell of a thing to wake up and learn that an American president, who attempted to overturn a free and fair election, has kidnapped a foreign leader to stand trial in the United States.
