We always like to say (myself included) that “it costs nothing to be kind…” and while I do 💯 believe that: depending on where a person is, in their life & journey, daily life challenges & circumstances can sometimes leave little energy for stopping to express kindness or empathy. 1/2

First they came for AWS
And I did not speak out
Because Canvas was down and that was fine by me.

Then they came for Cloudflare
And I did not speak out
Because I didn't need the textbook website.

Then they came for GitHub
And there were no more internet services
For me to use to get work done.

I saw this article about a new Mac featured called "Edge Light" that literally puts a fake white ring light around your screen. It's kinda insane and genius. So I vibed it for Windows. github.com/shanselman/W... get it from Releases, unzip and run the single .NET 10 exe. Will autoupdate also.

Absolutely the best post, anywhere, of Microsoft Intune issues in a long, long time. To paraphrase one reply: I'm convinced most Program/Product managers on the Intune team have never ever done endpoint management in corporate America.

When @404media.co published public records reporting without a paywall, new sources came forward.

We spoke to both about why dropping paywalls like this is good for journalism — and for business.

In short, the problem here is not that Signal ‘chose’ to run on AWS. The problem is the concentration of power in the infrastructure space that means there isn’t really another choice: the entire stack, practically speaking, is owned by 3-4 players. 11/

📣THREAD: It’s surprising to me that so many people were surprised to learn that Signal runs partly on AWS (something we can do because we use encryption to make sure no one but you–not AWS, not Signal, not anyone–can access your comms).

It’s also concerning. 1/
PSA: we're aware that Signal is down for some people. This appears to be related to a major AWS outage. Stand by.

just took a quick look at the Grokipedia article on "Tesla Autopilot," and it's even more shockingly biased than I expected

like, it might as well have been written by Tesla's lawyers

if you want proof of why Elon is interested in this technology, it's all right here
New: Elon Musk appears to have just launched "Grokipedia," billed as a more right-leaning rival to Wikipedia: grokipedia.com

Story to come. If you try it out, I'd be interested to hear what you find.

Even weirder: nobody in the press is pointing this out, or covering it in any real manner...

Dallas' leaders have squandered Downtown's geographic advantage for decades by systematically pushing development north while disinvesting in the immediately adjacent areas.

The trends are against us: it will take a stunning improvement in leadership to turn the ship around.
Long column short: With AT&T, Comerica, the Stars and Mavs eying exits, with nearly 30% of the CBD's towers vacant, there’s no vision for downtown in 2025, just landowners concerned about their corners of the CBD and a city manager trying to stop the bleeding.
