My mum dying suddenly and unexpectedly was, by a wide margin, the worst experience of my life. Made immeasurably more tolerable by support from family, friends and colleagues. I wrote about it in #ACPnews

As a Brit, I have seen a lot about this on Bluesky in the last 24 hours. But I have seen nothing from the President denouncing the violence at all. Has he not said anything, or am I in an echo chamber?

(It would be hard to imagine the UK prime minister )saying nothing if an MP were killed.)
This is a dark day.

Political violence has no place in our democracy. All of our leaders must stand united in condemning this terrible news out of Minnesota.

I am praying for the victims, their families, and their constituents as they process an unspeakable tragedy.
Minnesota lawmaker Melissa Hortman killed, State Sen. John Hoffman in grave condition in 'targeted political violence'
A manhunt is now underway for the gunman who was impersonating a police officer.

Life has a way of keeping one down to earth. Yesterday I found out I am getting a medal. Today - well, it looks like I need a colonoscopy.

Delighted about the former. More than a little anxious about the latter.

Sitting here in the UK, I'd never heard of Senator Cory Booker until tonight - he's not a big name here, but I suspect that may change now. I've been listening to him for the last few hours (and you can too as his speech, which has been going on for more than 22 hours now is being streamed ...

An education, which isn't limited to the textbooks being sold to students, is how you learn what questions to ask, and what answers to challenge.

LLMs are biased data, not knowledge, generation machines and function closer to a search engine than a person who can reason.
If you have zero education, but learn how to ask AI models the right questions , in many jobs you will be able to outperform someone with an advanced degree, but who is unwilling to use Large Language Models.

Just takes a smartphone, curiosity to experiment and a mindset to learn.
