Remember, blocking really works here
And now, a PSA song, which 60s kids from the states will surely get:

There is a habit, says the Turtle Bert
To stop the trolling posts before they can hurt
And then they never give your phone an alert
And here is what you do
You block, the weirdoes

I have to laugh a bit at how many of the reaction pieces to Lumiere is titled "this will change your view on video game music".

Now, there are many, many games I could mention whose musical scores are amazing (Final Fantasy 8, 9, 10, 14, Super Mario Galaxy 1 and 2).

So, after watching some more of one of my favourite genres of youtube videos —musicians hearing "Lumiere" from the game Claire Obscur: Expedition Trente-Trois*, I am compelled to finally write some thoughts about the game I've had for months.

Turns out with Epson tank printers, you can leave them not just off, but unplugged for almost a year, and all you need to do is to make it clean its nozzles, and then it'll work fine again.

Signed: Someone who just did this.

Completely unrelated and entirely by coincidence, I am reminded of when that high-ranking Bsky official (CEO?) mocked the idea of people mass migrating a social media service due to its leadership becoming assholes.
It's possible. Oswalt doesn't need Bluesky; there are other social media and he's on them, and in this late age of the Internet, it's rare for anyone to be on just one site. His Threads account is doing just fine with nearly 500k followers. Bluesky is my own fave but I'm elsewhere, too.
Wouldn’t be surprised if Oswalt decides to not return

Whatever the troubles are with normal currency –and there are a lot of problems, especially in the US late-stage unfettered caputalism era– it still remains a legitimate tool to bypass bartering. And in countries more civilised that USA, it is also used as a tool to improve society.
If you need me, tap me on the shoulder. I’ll be happily working all day listening to this on a loop.

"Trying to sue Disney"

You know, if 500 lawyers told me I had a watertight case...

....and I raised millions for lawyer fees in a gofundme...

...and it was a case where I would absolutely get the public opinion on my side...

Then maaaaybe I'd try to sue Disney.
Hi all - the litigation disaster tourism hour will begin at 1530 HST (1730 pacific, 2030 eastern).

We're going to look at the law firm that tried to sue Disney for the right to do a Steamboat Willie ad.

I've heard of circling the weagons, but this goes way beyond that and right into disgusting territory.

Fix your heart, you rotten, rotten person.
"I'm a rando who prefers to believe that everything is a conspiracy and am happy to tell women that I know better than she does how their literal job works" That a news org makes an editorial decision you wouldn't (or I wouldn't) doesn't mean someone is killing a story on behalf of a powerful person
"I write for the New York Times, and I can assure you that we've never buried stories on behalf of powerful people, many of those powerful people being part of NYT management. We only publish what's fit to print, like Zohran's application to Columbia that was leaked by a white nationalist"

As someone who spent a lot of the 2010s unlearning the habits I picked in late 90s and aughts, I absolutely was one of those buds at times, if at least not terminally so (I hope).
to be honest if we wanna dive REALLY deep, the answer is obvious: it has more to do with the ones doubting the possibility of sincerity. it is very difficult to fathom someones sincerity if youve slathered yourself in irony for ages and ages. this is not intended as a slight. i feel for those buds

LRT: I know I am on a couple of blocklists for people that are, very, very understandably, skeptical to generative algorithms (also known as AI), which is fine by me. I don't need them in my memtions.

But the case I linked to should shatter the illusion that what is sold as "AI" is the future.

This archived Twitter thread from Feb 2020 feels especially relevant.

Women move through the world knowing that you can name a field of endeavor—any field of endeavor—and a few of the Great Men in it, & you'll find rapists. And that we are required to make some kind of peace with that knowledge.
A famous actor of remarkable skill died at a very ripe old age today. Beyond his art, he's known for taking a stand that helped end the terror of the McCarthy years, & for raping a 16 yo girl, events that happened just a few yrs apart. I'm purposely not using his name because

In light of how Epstein just straight up sent NYT pictures of Trump together with his sex trafficking victims and NYT then just completely ignored it; it is truly special that this is Eric Lipton's pinned skeet, bragging about how hard they dig to "bring transparency".
If you want to keep track of some of investigative reporting we at The NYT are doing--abt Trump, Musk, AG Bondi, EPA, Interior, etc, you can follow this account. Our coverage is not perfect. Nothing is. But we are digging every day to bring transparency/accountability www.nytimes.com/2025/01/08/u...

WEEK 10:

Another tie, and this time, the tie also ties the leading SWOTW score. Both Broncos and Eagles ended with a final score of -19, escaping a truly devastating score thanks to the lack of a true shootout this week.

Still, we deem this Very Sad.

This one is not for all games, only all one-player games with grinding elements (the latter of which are almost all of them these days):

To have an "exploit" in the game's "grind engine" that allows you to optionally get rewards early that helps for the rest of the game.

It is now my firm belief that while he was playing for the Jets, someone told Sam Darnold that they only give you points the first time you score a touchdown in every half.

Turns out they give you points every time. You can just keep scoring on your opponent, no questions asked. None.

Hmmm, tricky one, that.

I don't think Kate Wagner would really like my RL vibe. Which, fair. It can be a fairly annoying vibe at times, I know myself well enough to admit that.

Gail Simone would probably get upset that I would do nothing but bear jokes.
I asked this before over at The Old Place and the answers delighted me. So again:

Who is an artist you admire who you suspect would not like you if they met you personally?

I think Peter Dinklage is fantastic. I would absolutely get on his last nerve. He'd be looking for the door while we spoke.

I won't deny she had some good qualities as speaker.

But she also had some bad ones, and these last few years, those bad qualities have been what we've seen from her, including how she's refused to adjust to a whole different situation altogether.

We 100% need something new and better now.
