Just like Hitler wanted Poland to succeed.

"Russia wants to see Ukraine succeed. Putin was very generous in his feeling toward Ukraine, succeeding, including supplying energy, electricity and other things at very low prices."

I already agree with this in principle - citizenship is an untouchable status or it is nothing - but also for reasons of prudence. “The Home Sec can revoke citizenship when he/she deems someone’s online output sufficiently offensive” is a v dangerous precedent to set with Reform leading all polls.
Hell, I'm not convinced we should revoke citizenship at all.

But certainly not for being a twat online.

2025 in the UK in a nutshell, folks: some of the country's most odious racists, who also never shut up about free speech & the right to offend, calling for a man from a racialised minority to have his citizenship cancelled over alleged racist speech, while the media dutifully jots it all down
Home secretary urged to strip activist of British citizenship
Shabana Mahmood is facing growing calls to revoke the citizenship of British-Egyptian dual national Alaa Abdel Fattah after the emergence of social media posts.

Fun fact.
Bluetooth is the Anglicised version of the Scandinavian Blåtand, the epithet of King Harald Bluetooth, who united the disparate Danish tribes into a single kingdom
The Bluetooth logo merges the Younger Futhark runes ᚼ, Hagal and ᛒ, Bjarkan, Harald's initials.

The Conservative Party is simultaneously arguing people shouldn’t be jailed for social media posts directly calling for violence, but also that people’s citizenship should be revoked over social media posts they don’t like.

Make it make sense.

Very concerning about the newly released British citizen jailed in Egypt. He has rights. These must be respected. It is fine for Farage to be Islamophobic or for Patel or Rees-Mogg to make anti Irish statements but as soon as you criticize Israel there are calls for citizenship to be removed.

Ask this question and its follow-up. Like Begum before him, Alaa el-Fattah is being used as a crowbar to shift reasonable people - even some progressives - into a space of thinking that full citizenship, if granted recently or dual, is retroactively conditional or attracts a lower class of rights.
