Contemporary History and Politics MA. Green Party. Appalled by world events currently. Like football, cats, dogs, Scotland.
We shall all be worse off without the BBC, which ought to have its own voice as a national (not state) broadcaster. The best thing now will be for a new DG to stand up to institutions, politicians, media figures and others. Trump can sue in a British court; let's see how he fares.

Farage calls it bias, but what he fears is balance. The BBC must report with courage, question every side, and refuse to echo rage for ratings. Truth has to sound calm when the world shouts chaos.

Revealing division in my timeline between (1) my insider friends who have lived privileged lives who are very keen that we defend the BBC and think it's important it survives and (2) my outsider friends who feel (at best) ambivalent about the BBC's survival.

Am remembering when a senior BBC News bod told me how they coded into their visual imagery criticisms of Jeremy Corbyn. But sure, it has a Left wing bias. waitingfortax.com/2018/03/19/t...

Nowhere in the hysterical pile-on against the BBC in the British press has anyone mentioned that BBC News now has 77 million viewers & listeners in the US and has established itself as the second most trusted news source there.

I don't often call for resignations. But Sir Robbie Gibb's role in the BBC boardroom coup makes his continued role there untenable. He must resign or be removed
‘Gibb’s supporters say he is trying to save the BBC from itself; he was also heard last year to say that if he didn’t get his way, he would “blow the place up”.’
“a group of politically-appointed directors has forced the hand of Samir Shah, the chair, and the departure of the two most senior people in the organisation. Their resignations should be called out for what they are: political interference..”1/

Today's #Housegawp is one of the best examples of "new builds are a blank slate, make what you like of them" that I've ever seen. I mean, absolute "fuck it, I want it" territory. I admire these people and their vision
