Like this arrest that happened right in front of me on Sunday. Just… so dumb and pointless. People have been standing on the barriers since they were put in place. Suddenly, on a day when it wasn’t even crowded, it’s a problem for these specific cops.
Cook County Sheriff’s deputies just arrested one man for standing on the concrete barrier to take photos.

This is absolutely the tactic. So many arrests were just someone taking a step over a line, or not knowing new rules the cops just made up, or at curfew, cops targeting protesters who were mouthy earlier in the day. Or no apparent reason at all. Prosecutors really should drop all of these.

I hadn't realized that Durbin has been the Democratic whip since 2005 (!!). That's just too long to be in that position (or any leadership position), his caucus should vote him out (the resulting Aaron Sorkin movie will have him receiving the news on a blue slip)

I realize that it's part of the governor's strategy to keep the National Guard at bay, but facilitating a violent, occupying force to keep another arm of the occupation at bay is not the only strategy, and it's one worthy of critique. Also, all state charges against protesters should be dropped NOW.

Alderman Sigcho-Lopez was right to call out Pritzker today about the state police arresting protesters. Pritzker responded that the state police are protecting protesters, and that just isn't true. State cops have arrested and brutalized protesters to facilitate ICE operations. That's reality.

Instead of folding like cheap chairs, Democrats should have forced the GOP to end the shutdown by killing the filibuster. Holding onto the archaic, antidemocratic tradition doesn't help them stop fascism, it makes them complicit to it.
