“I think this escalation on the federal level is also an escalation of the police brutality that has been happening to Black communities for centuries. That escalation is also a teacher.”
Kobi Guillory, CAARPR
REMEMBER: Rod Johnson, the 67-yo military vet who lived in the building, said he saw what looked like federal agents at the South Shore complex nearly 2 wks ahead of the raid.

“They had been in the building like 10 days prior to that [raid]. The doors was marked.”

Some Cook County judicial candidates who are virtually assured to breeze onto the bench have liabilities that might hurt them in a contested race — including one with a history of failing to pay income taxes, and one who only recently moved to Cook County.
No contest: Cook County judicial primary elections draw dwindling field of candidates
For the second straight primary season, more than half the races for Cook County circuit judge on the March 17 ballot are uncontested, with just 45 candidates vying for 28 open seats.

College educated folks, people with families abroad, and naturalized citizens are most likely to have passports. So… lots of lawsuits will be coming.
The SAVE act would only disproportionately affect Republican voters if the Trump administration enforces the law equally everywhere

Under this administration, laws are not rules that apply to everyone, they are weapons to be used against their enemies
Oops! MAGA to be most affected by SAVE act.

Secure Democracy Foundation analysis of State Dept & census data shows states Trump won handily have the largest percentage of citizens without valid passports.

So MAGA just assumed citizenship was written on their faces?

Since the start of Trump’s second term, the number of children in ICE detention has increased sixfold.

In their letters, kids held at the Dilley center told us about missing their friends, being unable to go to school and feeling trapped.

So proud of representative Ramirez!
NEW — I spoke with Rep. Delia Ramirez (@ramirez.house.gov) about her calling DHS leaders "inheritors of the Klan hood and the slave patrol," the prospect of one day seeing them behind bars, and what it's like to see the public [finally] embrace her long-held dream to abolish ICE.

Our conversation:
"The day of accountability will come": Rep. Delia Ramirez on abolishing and prosecuting DHS
The Handbasket spoke with the congresswoman who called out ICE long before it was popular.

Hello, lovely people of Lakeview / 44th ward!
44th Ward Action is happy to endorse Toni Preckwinkle for the President of the Cook County Board. Toni is the incumbent and we all sleep better at night, knowing that she is in charge vs yet another republican pretending to be a democrat. #Vote

Medicare for all, paid leave, universal childcare.

Busting up big corporations and tackling Wall Street’s greed.

Getting big money out of politics.

Supporting unions and fighting for higher wages.

If Dems want to win back working people, this is the agenda they must support.

The tea is hot!
As the article says, Chicago PD has 11,564 sworn officers and this report will claim 121 more are needed.

Updating my chart: 11,564/2.72 million x 100k

CPD has **425** officers per 100k residents and they want to increase to 429 (+ hundreds of civilians).

This is not a serious way to run a city.

@indivisiblechicago.bsky.social when would it be a good time to talk about platforming and encouraging racism at our chapter meetings? If folks who facilitate and run meetings don’t know how to address dog whistles, they shouldn’t jump down to shut down community members who speak up against racism.
