The NB hospital that has not brought back masks, certainly not respirators, in their facilities, are looking to add a level 3 containment space... they have yet to acknowledge airborne transmission of certain viruses 🙃 @govnb.bsky.social

Sadly the Painted Bunting in Cape Jourimain hasn't been seen for a couple of weeks, likely not surviving the cold. This bird won the hearts of everyone who saw it (one even got a tattoo). Thank you to those who tried so hard to help it through the winter. Fly into the great beyond little one.

This year for Long Covid Awareness Month, we’re highlighting the impact of Covid on the heart and cardiac system. But we know #LongCovid impacts people in so many different ways, so we want to highlight all sorts of patient experiences with an instantly recognizable graphic: a broken heart.

Short 🧵: Adult son in recovery after a tonsillectomy. Nursing staff very kind/caring.

But not one medical professional on this floor is wearing a respirator. The nurse said they were told recently they didn’t have to. Tone as though grateful for the policy change to give them the out.

I think it matters that two of the biggest political champions of this are moms with school-aged kids - MLA Mitton and premier Holt. People whose lives are immediately affected every time their kids pick up preventable illnesses at school.
It’s been a pretty good week-or-so. ☺️

ASHRAE 241 for all new GNB buildings, including schools.

Then-current ASHRAE 62.1 for retrofits.

CO2 monitoring in all schools by June.

Literal breath of fresh air.
Absolute breath of fresh air. The dam's been cracking for a while, but this is the part where the jet of water blasts out and you know it's unstoppable.

Respiratory virus season is here. COVID-19, flu, and RSV are circulating. Protect yourself by getting vaccinated, washing hands, improving ventilation, masking in crowded spaces, and staying home if sick.

What a happy interaction with a fellow masker in the grocery store today. A smile when we noticed each other, a brief conversation complimenting each other on our masks with the salad of viruses floating around and a thank you to each other. Such a simple thing that means so much.

Or another way to frame it:

I work closely with three classes of about 50 university students throughout the week. Assuming the student population is comparable to the general public, I face an 85% chance of encountering at least one person with an infection every week.

This isn’t just “flu season.” It’s multiple pathogens circulating at once — and the harm adds up fast.

Respirator-grade masks provide respiratory protection against inhalation of airborne pathogens. Layered prevention works: masking + ventilation + filtration + testing + isolation protocols.

in her hospital ward there’s a “suggestion” board just outside the nurses’ station asking how to improve care—i wrote that all staff should be in respirators to minimize nosocomial infection. my note was rather conspicuous as it was the only one in red ink. when i returned hours later it was gone
It’s like this disease just disappeared from the public consciousness.
my 86-yr-old mother in early stages of dementia has developed a rattly chest cough after being in hospital for a week. she has 5 broken ribs (in multiple places) from being struck by a car at crosswalk. docs and nurses are concerned about complications from pneumonia, influenza … COVID? not so much
