My piece in tomorrow’s Times about the toxic men in stand-up comedy. www.thetimes.com/culture/come...
The comedy scene is stuffed with toxic men — so I wrote a novel about them
Don’t Make Me Laugh is about predatory men in the British comedy industry — the author wasn’t lacking for real-life inspiration

Taking the tree down in the midst of icy January is obviously stupid. The Pagan lighting up of the dark is the whole point of winter festivals. Trees are Victorian, not an ancient tradition but what they represent is ancient. My internal debate continues. The tree may still be up at day’s end.

@alicatterall.bsky.social did you see?! 😍📽️🎞️
I saw Scala!!!, a thrillingly hilarious documentary about the wild story of London's Scala cinema, and loved it so much that I had to write my own love letter to my own much-missed offbeat arthouse cultural and spiritual cinematic home...

You might not have been to the Scala Cinema – but you will almost certainly have been somewhere that made you feel the same way,,,

Did NO ONE else hear Ellie say “secret Traitor” in her last interview? They say “Traitor”. The faithfuls don’t know there’s a “secret” one and they wouldn’t use that phrase because it’s superfluous. Traitors are secret. Ellie is the secret Traitor. #Traitors

I’ve had the most amazing debut publication year. Now working on book two but please add #DontMakeMeLaugh to your TBR pile if you’re interested in the many trials/investigations of comedians guaranteed to be in the news a lot again this year. #MeToo #BookSky Out now in paperback.

It’s weird that the far right could get completely unsuitable people elected by generating hysteria around an imaginary elite child trafficking ring, but a real one (involving that same guy) or a billionaire who’s running an AI child porn generating site is probably not worth making a fuss about.

Reviewed last night’s festive ep of The Good Ship Murder. When you consider the state of tv commissioning at the moment, I struggle to understand money being spent on something this actually terrible.
A three-year-old could solve The Good Ship Murder's mystery
I can't tell if Shayne Ward's cruise ship-based drama is supposed to be satirical or not

Happy Christmas to everyone who listened to or supported any of our podcasts this year.

Lots more to come in the New Year.

Now, to deal with the excess of unwanted Quality Street flavours by starting a set of colour coded local amnesty bins.

Looking at the Christmas vinyl display at Rough Trade and underneath the Vince Guaraldi and Phil Spector was a square box containing a jigsaw of the cover of Nevermind, and for a minute I thought there was a Nirvana Christmas LP.
