All of this chaos and performative cruelty for some lousy tax cuts?
trump *always* kills the hostage.

On November 5, 2024 the United States of America overdosed on a mixture of bigotry, willful ignorance, hypocrisy and performative cruelty in an apparent murder/suicide attempt. Looks like we’ll know relatively soon whether it was fatal.

1) Start the worst European war since 1945 and commit every imaginable war crime
2) Decide how you want to be rewarded for your aggression
3) Leak the list of your desiderata to the US press
4) Wait for the US president to enforce your wish list on your victim.

We made progress this week in our effort to ban stock-trading by Members of Congress.

Representatives shouldn’t be trading stocks — and neither should the Director of the FBI!

Bluesky ethical ruling on resubscribing to @WaPo for $12/yr? There are still many good journalists there and I’d be able to complain about Bezos as a subscriber.

Generations. The de-muskification/de- voughtification of the federal workforce needs to come first.
DOGE was created for data theft and infrastructure dismantling and it wildly succeeded on both counts within the first few weeks of its existence. It will take a generation to rebuild what it destroyed and the breach of data is unprecedented.
Bye bye, “DOGE”.

It no longer exists as a “centralized entity”, according to the Office of Personnel Management.

Super easy to remember and say. Get this done and you will be a peacemaker.
Hey, Trump. You don’t need to push Putin’s 28-point plan to end the war in Ukraine. Just go with the one point plan to end it: Russia gets the hell out of Ukraine.

A video from inside a Border Patrol vehicle shows agents chasing a US citizen for filming them. The citizen refused to get out when they illegally ordered him to stop. The agents say: "This is great." "This is fun." "He's going to get shot."

The broligarchs have more money and power than any class in human history—and they don’t give a fuck about you. The LEAST we can do is tax the shit out of them. The least.
Meta was aware that millions of adult strangers were contacting minors on its sites; that its products exacerbated mental health issues in teens; and that content related to eating disorders, suicide, and child sexual abuse was frequently detected, yet rarely removed.

Court filings allege Meta tolerated sex trafficking, hid harms to teens, and prioritized growth over user safety for years.

MTG is the drama & it’s fun to watch, but that doesn’t change who she is or the harm she’s caused & continues to cause.

The most important thing to remember about all this fantasy-engineering of the Constitution is Madison's warning: If we suck as a people, no clever constitutional schemes will save us.

I thought Walter Isaacson had a great line about this on TV the other night: That line in the Declaration wasn't a fact, it was a mission statement
In Ken Burns' new documentary, "The American Revolution," the idea that colonists of all stripes took to heart Thomas Jefferson's declaration that, "All men are created equal," was revelatory.

It was a principle which the masses, then and now, deeply embraced. That's why American democracy works.

If you receive an illegal order, you have a duty to disobey.

This isn’t controversial.

A President calling for the execution of anyone who reminds service members of this oath is showing us why the duty to disobey illegal orders is so important in the first place.

We are doomed.
A horrifying graphic from Pew showing the fruits of the right wing war on public health.

Only 48% of Republicans believe that vaccines prevent serious illness, while 80% of Democrats do.

This is not a difference of opinion in science. This is the result of a ruthless disinformation campaign.

I had to repeat the process on all of my devices. Also, it’s in Settings>Data privacy on iOS.
If you use GMail, AI (Gemini) was turned on yesterday by default and now scans all of your content for machine learning. To turn off, go to Settings>General and scroll down. Uncheck the box for "Smart features."

There's other "Smart" add-ons as well, but that's the one that reads your content.

Especially if people just whine about how everything is fascism instead of acting like mature citizens of a democracy and getting off their asses and voting against it.
By the time Tom is willing to acknowledge the fascism that Trump is baking into the American political system, there will be no one left able to do anything about it.
No, but I promise I’ll let you know

Too bad the 14th A wasn’t enforced in 2024.
Before the midterms of 1866, President Andrew Johnson called his congressional opponents traitors and said they should be hanged.

Voters were so profoundly moved by his words... that they gave his opponents a supermajority in Congress, and the nation got the Fourteenth Amendment.
