Truly incredible moment just now from an RNZ newsreader who mentioned the Auckland neighbourhood Point Chevalier pronouncing it, like, how you'd think; she then stopped, apologized, and said "that's 'point chev-a-LEER' for the locals"

@marcdaalder.bsky.social reports on the merger plan, giving facts as known.
An analysis of the intent and politics of the move, and how and whether it will work will come later.
After that are Opinion pieces.

Might be a bit soon to declare gardening a legal activity in New Zealand 🇳🇿
All those gardener convicts might flood the market with marrows with all this rain we’ve been getting 🤷‍♀️

NZ has not really come to terms with how far developed the disinfo networks were that led to riots and flames on the parliament grounds.

It's been brushed off as individual cookers without much serious introspection in public of the information ecosystem and funding conditions that led to it.

Indeed.

FYI, at the end of The Rest is Politics podcast with Jacinda, Rory Stewart mentioned that according to the UK Electoral Reform Society at the time she resigned Jacinda was only second to Emmanuel Macron as a target for Russian disinformation.

#RecipeOfTheDay is, as it must be on Pancake Day, obviously enough, pancakes and, specifically, crêpes. These are the pancakes of my childhood and, furthermore, I have to eat them with just sugar and lemon juice. But that’s me: you go as wild as you want! www.nigella.com/recipes/crepes

Although thick, fluffy American pancakes seem to predominate in my house, I couldn't let Pancake Day pass without making a batch of these: it would seem a sin against tradition, nature and greed. They...

They don't even honour signed & sealed contracts (eg, iRex ferries construction contracts).

The covid emergency clearly demonstrated one inescapable fact: Labour is better at planning for the future.

The Superannuation Investment Fund and Kiwisaver is more evidence that Labour plans for the future whilst National offers tax cuts for short term electoral self-benefit.

Until NZers...

Part of my role is emergency management and I get it.
If you have easy to find meds, closed in shoes (glass etc) and a torch you’ve made a good start.
A simple list on the fridge of what else to grab, when you’re brain is panicking, is a big help too.

Also. People. YOU MAY NOT BE AT HOME WHEN AN EMERGENCY HITS!!

A lot of advice (a) individualises the problem and (b) assumes people will be at home.

Fun fact: NZers travel!

We holiday, visit family/friends, work, go on retreats, etc etc

We need better advice+support than "err make go bag". Gah
I dunno about you, but our house is not very big and quite full of people and their stuff, so we don't really have space to put a big bag of stuff by the front door.

We don't have an entry hall, we barely have any storage space, we don't have a garage....

What to pack in emergency 'grab and go' bags
People should have a pre-packed "grab and go" bag by their exit door, with supplies that can last about 72 hours in case of an emergency.
