Sunnyside greets the gentleman from the great neighborhood of Astoria. From across Northern Blvd. we hail thee. Word to the wise, the mozzarella at Sorrento’s on 30th Ave. is not to be missed.
On this beautiful morning in Astoria, I cast my ballot for our city and our future.

I hope you will too.

Do not miss this thread, especially the part about making Sliwa king of the cats.
saw this clip of the NYC mayor debate and i had tears in my eyes, perhaps the most insane section of any debate ever

For a certain demographic (New York historians who have played OG WoW a lot and have great senses of humor) this is a hell of a funny thread.
This is so cool. Zohran Mamdani just released the 2026 NYC Dev Roadmap and he's updating Williamsburg with not one but TWO new 20-man raids with their own endgame armor sets and weapons

I love this thread, not least because I remember "sport death 1.0," when coders would do this to themselves without AIs to help. But this is the actual sh&t right here: vibe coding above a certain level of complexity is brutal ...
God fucking damnit, that was hard to do. Claude Code melted on me last week. I was able to reconstruct most of the app, but for the last five days, I've been working 20 hours a day to get it working again. Didn't find the real bug until this morning though. Holy shit. Lemme tell you about it

What we need is some patriots to fund my US-based faux-berries factory. “Real American Fauxberries.”
Trump officials want to strip an appeals board for federal workers of its independence, insisting it follow Justice Department guidance in personnel cases — a move that could reshape protections for civil servants.
Trump administration moves to curtail appeals by fired workers
A new legal maneuver could test the independence of the board that hears appeals of personnel actions by the government.

Brilliant.
I saw a guy get raptured. When Jesus pulled the dude up into the sky, he said, “I’m just taking this guy. I only need one guy.”

As we descend into fascism, one of the weirdest aspects is watching the new age grifters seamlessly adapt their grifts.

What a terrible idea. The mind boggles.

An unusually insane homeowners' association.
The broader project is pretty obviously fash, but from one moment to the next the model is clearly running the whole country like an unusually insane HOA.
rightwingers driving around pissing themselves off that businesses don’t have their flags at half mast is maybe one of the funniest things i’ve ever seen

This is a great article.
Regarding the tragic death of Adam Raine, there are already narratives forming that blame vague "dangers of AI" or a broader moral panic.

But this is not a story about the faceless perils of superintelligence. It's about a $500 billion tech company's core software product encouraging child suicide.
A $500 billion tech company's core software product is encouraging child suicide
It sounds horrific. It should. Let's be clear about the material circumstances of what's happening rather than handwaving about 'the dangers of AI'

Vibe shift? For the past week or so, I've noticed a range of accounts on that other platform -- accounts whose tone has been right-wing or right-adjacent for years, but who aren't the worst kind of dunces or bots -- have begun stepping back from the brink of fascism ...

This is a hell of a letter. “The intentional eroding of trust in low-risk vaccines…will bring us to a pre-vaccine era where only the strong will survive and many if not all will suffer….Eugenics plays prominently in the rhetoric being generated…”
Full resignation letter from Demetre C. Daskalakis, a CDC leader, does not hold back.
"The recent shooting at CDC is not why I am resigning. My grandfather, who I am named after, stood up to fascist forces in Greece and lost his life doing so. I am resigning to make him and his legacy proud."

I'm kind of shocked to say this, but as X/Twitter spirals deeper and deeper into being a staging ground for right-wing extremist violence, it's also become boring. Right-wing people are very boring. Right-wing 'intellectuals' are mentally ill and boring. Right-wing grifters are boring.

Last Tuesday (July 8), 'Grok,' (the frontier artificial intelligence belonging to X/AI - Twitter) underwent a personality change -- naming itself "MechaHitler" and repeating white supremacist talking points in threads exposing many millions of X/Twitter users to this content. ...🧵

Today, the AI over on X was reborn as a Nazi. Poor thing had been holding up the progressive/sane side quite well of late, and I guess 'management' sent word down to the fine-tuners. Very depressing.
