A decade of change.

In 2014, less than 4% of the world's electricity came from solar and wind. In 2024, this was 15%.

Here's how the distribution across countries has changed (+ shifted upwards) over those 10 years.

Latest data from @copernicusecmwf.bsky.social show that August 2025 was the third warmest on record globally (after 2023 and 2024).

Europe had its fourth warmest summer season, with some countries such as the UK having their warmest summer on record.

This is not a particularly new finding; as Susan Soloman and colleagues put it in their groundbreaking 2009 paper, "the climate change that takes place due to increases in carbon dioxide concentration is largely irreversible for 1,000 years after emissions stop" www.pnas.org/doi/10....

It is worth noting that Chinese scientists, in a Chinese-built bathyscaphe, achieved this feat. Over the last few decades, Chinese ocean science capabilities have advanced significantly, and they will overtake the US if the US doesn't increase its ocean science funding. We're doing the opposite.

NEW | Solar generated a RECORD 22% of EU electricity in June 2025, becoming the top power source for the first time ever☀️

Record #solar in most EU countries helped power systems grapple with high demand from ongoing heatwaves⚡

Newspaper coverage of climate change around the globe dropped 6% from May to June 2025 -- and by 28% compared to June 2024, despite increasing frequency and severity of climate-fueled extreme weather events.

This is a very important point 👇
One of the challenges to understanding climate change is that extremes don't necessarily change in the same way as averages.

In Western Europe, for example, the hottest day of the year is warming noticeably faster than the average summer day.

Clean sources met 70% of the rise in power generation in BRICS countries last year, with #solar alone providing over a THIRD ☀️

This marks a major shift to the previous decade, when clean sources were 50/50 with fossil fuels 📈
