@rmwhittaker.bsky.social I remember SXSW announcing marquee films right around the same time as BNAT (yeah, yeah, this was awhile ago) in early December, so it's not unprecedented.

*looks at #PDX acquaintances* anyone?
I'm planning a long weekend in Astoria. Recommendations for things to do, places to eat? Indoors stuff preferred. I'll stipulate I already know about the Tower and Goonies house.

Any faves you want to share?

Lithgow saying that a family friend with a trans kid came to him and literally said “please don’t do this” and he did it anyway really gives the game away. they don’t not know
Once again thinking about every actor trying to justify taking the money for the new HP series.

This is not an issue of cropping! They accidentally used the raw plate without VFX that removed the crew. In the proper version you still See John Hamm step back but no crew behind him.
HBOMax has started showing a 'remastered' 4K Mad Men and they’ve messed things up so during Roger’s oyster vomit scene you can now see the crew men with the vomit hose on the right

This will kill repertory theatres. WB has some of the favourable screening terms for indie cinemas. They also have a massive library spanning 100 years of films and HUGE tentpole films that put butts in seats.

Hoarding all that on Netflix would be awful.

Portland folks: any recs on where to buy cool and flattering eyeglasses, with helpful staff (who have good taste in frames themselves)? My eye doctor is great but I want to get my glasses somewhere else. Ideally a place that avoids Big Eyeglass Monopolies. #PDX #Portland

This time last year, I was on the South Lawn of the White House helping to lay out the AIDS Memorial Quilt.
This year the White House did nothing and the State Department instructed empoyees and grant recipients to “refrain from publicly promoting World Aids Day through any communication channels”
This morning I had the honor of helping lay out some panels of the #AIDS Memorial Quilt on the South Lawn of the White House. Seeing all these individual lives that were lost and knowing they are just a miniscule part of that great tapestry of loss is haunting.

when i finally got that certain giant university systems are primarily real estate and mineral rights holding companies with a football team attached, and no strong feelings about also serving as an educational institution so long as it made the right people happy, things started making more sense
I dunno man it just really seems like American universities have lost the plot over the past 30 years or so and while I too love college football and basketball, the people making key decisions at them don't seem to care about their educational mission at all

I had to leave a beautiful thing that Tim Curry said about Stoppard on the cutting-room floor. To Curry, the payoff of properly honoring the brilliance of Stoppard’s language in performance is the joy of the audience: “You can almost see them reaching up their hands in the air to catch a sentence.”

LSU is paying its previous football coach over $50 million NOT to coach there while likely guaranteeing Kiffin something approaching double that, all while having an academic hiring freeze and budget cuts across the board. What is the purpose of a university (rhetorical)?
SOURCES: Lane Kiffin is expected to accept LSU's offer to become the Tigers next head coach. Kiffin is set to meet with his Ole Miss team this morning at 9 AM CT. As we reported yesterday morning, LSU has been very confident it was going to land Kiffin. www.nytimes.com/athletic/684...

Does it strike anyone as weird that we have a ratings board that counts the number of times a movie says fuck or shows a boob and decides who is allowed to see it, and yet GenAI was dropped on the entire with no restrictions, no age verification, no checks, no regulation whatsoever?
