Not to compare the scale of them, but I'm certain we will one day look back on our collective failure of trans youth and their subsequent trauma and suicides in the same way we remember the AIDS crisis.
Cw: suicide
This article is devastating.

Earlier this month, a 15-year-old died by suicide the day after posting about a substitute teacher insisting on misgendering him.

Suicide can have many contributing factors. His family is speaking out about bullying and misgendering as two.

In a large field, this might be one of the most disgusting and nationally embarrassing things Trump has ever said.

Khashoggi was a brave journalist who wrote for a US newspaper and was murdered and his body butchered on the orders of the man Trump is sitting with and praising.

Abhorrent.
Trump suggests Khashoggi had it coming: "You're mentioning someone that was extremely controversial. A lot of people didn't like that gentleman that you're talking about. Whether you like him or didn't like him, things happen. But he knew nothing about it. You don't have to embarrass our guest."

Last Thanksgiving, two Dallas Police officers knocked on my door, citing a tip from the FBI national threat operations center that I was beating my girlfriend. The incident report confirms this. Today, I obtained a file from the FBI via FOIA that states the FBI has no record of receiving such a tip.

The rate of sepsis in Houston surged 63% after Texas banned abortion.

In the Dallas-Fort Worth area, where hospital leaders empowered doctors to intervene before patients’ conditions worsened, it rose 29%.

Why Hospital Policies Matter in States That Ban Abortion
Our first-of-its-kind data analysis found that a seismic split emerged in how medical institutions in Texas' two largest metro areas, Houston and Dallas, treated miscarrying patients — and in their ou...

I've spent time in very rural appalachia and public media really is a lifeline in lots of places most of America is happy to forget about.
Was thrilled to help consult for this fantastic John Oliver segment on the tragic plight of U.S. public media and why, if we hope to be a democracy, we still need public media for so many things that commercial media will never provide. Deserves a wide viewership. www.youtube.com/watch?v=yknM...

The cruelty is always the point, but it's also massively beneficial for MAGA for big blue cities to have escalating problems w/r/t the unhoused.

These cities are not the hellholes they claim they are, so if they can turn them into hellholes, it's all gravy.
I cannot wrap my head around how cruel and destructive this is.

This is what comes of years of rhetoric demonizing and blaming the unhoused on the part of politicians (including big city Democrats) instead of seeing them as neighbors who need help
This is far worse than anyone expected.

Trump's HUD plan would cut *two-thirds* of permanent housing and push as many as 170,000 formerly homeless people back onto the street—redirecting funds to work mandates, forced treatment, and encampment sweeps.

All as mass internment camps are being built.

This has been building for decades for obvious reasons.

Whether cops ever need or use the same gear as Seal Team Six doesn't really matter; authoritarians understand the inimidation factor is supremely important.

When people feel fighting back is impossible, they simply won't.
I simply refuse to accept that police ever have to look like this. this is just pure cosplay. it should be illegal for cops to be dressed like soldiers going to war.
