Look, look, it's me! In a book! I'm so excited about seeing my short story in print. 😊

The anthology is gorgeous and full of so many awesome writers! ❤️❤️❤️
Dearest hive mind: I have a lot of dried beans and an Instant Pot/slow cooker. What recipes involving beans can I cook for twelve hours?

Meaning, I throw it in there in the morning, and it's ready after work, etc. 🙂

The 8 year old and I are writing stories, as one does.

8 year old: How do I make the indent?
Me: You make the indent by hitting tab.
8 year old: *genuinely shocked gasp*

Basic typing skills are still useful to learn in school. 🙃

I finally have the chance to send out short stories, and ohmigod, how depressing is the market right now? There's magazines still, but so few are open and paying decent rates.

Total life goals. ❤️
Remember, you're under no obligation to justify yourself to anyone if you choose to spend the entire weekend reading books, drinking multiple kettles of tea, and indulging in a scandalous amount of croissants.

The carnivorous parrots from The Boy and the Heron still live in my head rent-free. ❤️

On August 12, 1971, 16-year-old me mailed the first story I ever wrote off on its first submission to my dream market, F&SF. My tale was quickly rejected. On July 17th, 2025, I finally sold a story to that magazine. Here's why I felt I had to withdraw that story. www.scottedelman.com/wordpress/20...

Back to report that I’ve finished this, and if it doesn’t win a Hugo next year, I will be highly surprised. ❤️
I'm trying to read @alixeharrow.bsky.social's THE EVERLASTING while my child watches Bluey next to me, and my poor brain keeps returning "does not compute". 🙃

(It's a really good book though! Also, I like Bluey, too. 🙂)

where is there a live feed of the Senate voting?
November 10, 2025 at 2:14 AM
Everybody is like, yay, the Democratic Party is a big, happy coalition.

But it's needed to split into separate parties for years at this point. You cannot cater to the center and expect any kind of meaningful change.

Just a reminder that if you have money to spare, now is a good time to donate to your local food bank. My local one, for example, not only feeds people, but they serve as a resource organization, helping people navigate NJ state benefits.

AND they run an after-school homework help club. 1/

My 8 year old is reading a Hanukkah book that has a Trojan dreidel in it, and I'm pleased to report that not only did she get the joke, but she knew the story of Troy well enough to scream, "That's supposed to be in the Trojan War!"

My work here is done. 🙂

I cannot repeat enough that in the year 2025, we should not let people go hungry in this country. It’s basic human decency to feed people.

LET ME BE PERFECTLY CLEAR: DOJ DID ALL OF THIS TO TRY AND STOP PAYMENTS TO PEOPLE UNDER AN ANTI-HUNGER PROGRAM.
Oh, this is wild.

DOJ went to SCOTUS *before* we got the First Circuit's administrative stay denial. (We know this because DOJ just filed a letter at SCOTUS about the admin stay denial.)

So, DOJ went to SCOTUS b/c the First Circuit did not meet its less-than-seven-hour "deadline" for a ruling.

*quietly crumbles into dust* 🙃
I read this and immediately thought “well that would actually be awesome because then Marty can go back to the 90s where he probably had a really awesome time as a teenager” and then I was like oh wait his PARENTS would have been teenagers in the 90s and then I just sat here for like 45 minutes

Because life has been crazy this year, I have a simple request for all of you. 🙂

If you've published a piece of short fiction this year, please drop a link to it here. I want to read your work! I want to do a lovely, wonderful recommendation thread of everyone's words. But I'm behind in reading.
November 7, 2025 at 12:16 AM
For the morning crowd. 🙂
Anyway, it's awards season? #fantasy

I've published one thing in 2025, but I'm wildly proud of it!

My short story, "Elephant in Winter", appeared in OF ENCHANTMENT, ENIGMA, AND THE INFINITE!

If you'd like to read it, you can purchase the anthology here:

I like how I couldn't be verified on Twitter for years and I STILL can't be verified on BlueSky.

All of my short fiction publications, even the ones in major magazines like Nature, apparently count for bupkis.

(I've heard nothing about my verification request, so I assume rejection, @bsky.app.)

I 100% agree with this. My town splits 50/50 for Dem/Rep almost every election.
Jersey is a LOT more purple than our presidential election results would have you believe. We have had many Republican governors. My family’s home town is littered with Trump signs. Dem wins are never guaranteed.

My genealogical research is in this food documentary! And they interviewed me, so presumably, I'm in it for a tiny bit, too! 🙂

It airs on November 30th at 10 PM in the NYC area! It'll be on PBS Passport starting on November 28th! :)
