Fun fact: When your commuter train hits a deer, you need to stop the train. And then, some poor train employee has to get out into the freezing cold, deal with the deceased deer, and check the train for damage.

This, naturally, delays the train. 🙃

The briefest of reminders that my nine year old has picked a lofty goal of 500 boxes of Girl Scouts cookies sold this year, and if you’d like to help her out, we’d be very grateful. She would be overjoyed, if she actually hit the goal. ❤️

In case you're wondering how cold it is in NJ, my dad just called to tell me that the flexible hose which leads from the pipes to his dishwasher--and carries water to the dishwasher--has FROZEN.

And yes, he has taken all the plumbing precautions & the pipes themselves are fine. But not the hose. 😅

Oh god, the elementary school has sent my child home with a recorder. I knew it was coming--and yet--I still do not love listening to "Hot Cross Buns".

I'm super honored to announce that my book Between the Wires: The Janowska Camp and the Holocaust in Lviv has won the Rachel Feldhay Brenner Award in Polish-Jewish Studies from the Polish Institute of Arts and Sciences of America.

I am so grateful that Janowska's story is reaching a wider audience.

Honest question: When did school yearbooks get so expensive? I'm paying $140 for one for my high school kid, and there is no other option. I feel like I'm getting ripped off, paying this much.

Awhile ago, I bought a five pack of frog-shaped fidget toys from Bree. I'm here to tell you they're excellent, and that my kids regularly fight over who gets to have the rainbow frog.

I can only assume they everything else in the shop is similarly awesome, so you should definitely order things. 🙂
Folks keep asking how they can support me while I'm focused on whistles. I super appreciate it, but also I get very self-conscious. So if you REALLY WANT TO, you can support us at ko-fi.com/kitrocha but I'd rather you get something in return!

Children are delightful, especially when they learn to make their own food... until, of course, they accidentally track honey across the kitchen floor. 😅

I love this quote. ❤️

"Nevertheless, there is right and there is wrong. There is good and there is evil. It is wrong to tell lies. It is wrong to disguise the nature of evil. It is not forward-looking to pretend that these deportations did not happen and that they did not inflict immense suffering."

Apparently, our local Costco is mobbed with people getting gas before the storm.

We, on the other hand, are off to get bread and milk, the venerable cornerstones of storm preparedness. 🙃

I am on the train. It is 18 F out right now. This apparently causes the train doors to malfunction. And the conductor has just announced that if the door doesn't open, we all need to run the length of the car to the next door, so no one misses their stop. 😂
