Look, look, it's me! In a book! I'm so excited about seeing my short story in print. 😊

The anthology is gorgeous and full of so many awesome writers! ❤️❤️❤️
This hurts my heart. 💔
TIL about a memorial ceremony in Iceland in 2019 to mark the end of a glacier, changing the place name from Okjökull to Ok (jökull = glacier). Uncompromising wording on the bronze plaque:
"This is to acknowledge that we know what is happening and what needs to be done. Only you know if we did it".

And you, my father, there on the sad height,
Curse, bless, me now with your fierce tears, I pray.
Do not go gentle into that good night.
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.
Which lines of poetry live rent-free in your head?

I'm sorting through 1924 marriage records from Brooklyn, and I need you all to know that there are literally pages and pages of women named Giuseppina who married in that year. Possibly, one of these is your ancestor. 🙂 #genealogy

Following up on this, I bought two Hanukkah sweatshirts on Etsy, and almost had a mini heart attack when I got a shipping notice from DHL Global.

But never fear, the US-based seller is using them to ship domestically for some unknown reason. 😅
Every single Hanukkah “sweater“ online is really a sweatshirt, not an actual sweater. This is very frustrating.

Spotify: Guess what, guess what?!
Me: What?
S: Your listening time this year was 21 DAYS!
Me: Because I listen when I work from home.
S: AND!
Me: Yes?
S: You listened to your favorite song 27 TIMES.
Me: That's not a lot.
S: Because you listened to 2342 DIFFERENT SONGS this year! That's unique!
Me: 😂

It’s like poetry. I’m really fond of the concept of negative space, where what isn’t said matters just as much as what’s on the page.
For me, it's about context, implication, and reference. A tiny story needs to expand in the mind of the reader.
With all due respect to my ultra-short short fiction writers, how the fuck do you write anything shorter than 500 words? That's like, a twenty-skeet thread. But with plot and characters and ideas and stuff! I can barely keep my short stories under 10k!

Oh, hey, it's the Jewish food documentary that I helped out with! I appear in the section about blintzes, for a small amount of time. 🙂 #genealogy

Dear Internet, my eight year old desperately needs to know "Are fish kind?", even though we have already explained that fish do not have the mental capacity for human kindness.

Please help us answer this question.

Jewish Family Thanksgiving, where everyone gets told a time to arrive.

And everyone arrives late. 😂

One, I adore these books.

And two, as an adult, I made a point of collecting them all because I love them THAT MUCH. If you’ve never read them, you absolutely must. ❤️
You know what’s ripe for a comeback is the Wolves of Willoughby Chase series by Joan Aiken. Smart & non-condescending YA, fantastical without being fantasy, dark and Dickensian as hell, extremely lefty and anticapitalist, a full dozen sequels, amazing Edward Gorey covers.

Sauce Ragoût, which makes the best Thanksgiving gravy ever. ❤️

Not a movie.

Kaos, season 2.

Thank you for coming to my TED talk.
If you were a despotic president, what movie would you force Hollywood to make? I want to see Quentin's Star Trek movie or maybe Kill Bill Vol 3.

I have to tell you, hosting major holidays while working full-time is a kick. And by that, I mean that I haven't shopped for ingredients yet, nor figured out entirely what I'm making. And I'm not sure we have a turkey. 😅
November 25, 2025 at 3:07 PM
I'm fruitlessly searching my old texts to figure out what brand of turkey my parents bought last year, and I have discovered this list of last-minute Thanksgiving main course ideas. I think everyone should have a ceremonial macaroni and cheese. 😂

I see this and raise you:

Is kugel a casserole?

Potato kugel? Noodle kugel? What about the more "exotic" kugels, like broccoli?
What’s casserole?

Seriously, I’ve never eaten one in my life.

Is a lasagna a casserole? How about a shepherd’s pie?

In case you're wondering, the awesome alien trading game you played as a kid was Gazillionaire! 🙂

Dearest hive mind: I have a lot of dried beans and an Instant Pot/slow cooker. What recipes involving beans can I cook for twelve hours?

Meaning, I throw it in there in the morning, and it's ready after work, etc. 🙂

The 8 year old and I are writing stories, as one does.

8 year old: How do I make the indent?
Me: You make the indent by hitting tab.
8 year old: *genuinely shocked gasp*

Basic typing skills are still useful to learn in school. 🙃

I finally have the chance to send out short stories, and ohmigod, how depressing is the market right now? There's magazines still, but so few are open and paying decent rates.
November 15, 2025 at 8:06 PM
Total life goals. ❤️
Remember, you're under no obligation to justify yourself to anyone if you choose to spend the entire weekend reading books, drinking multiple kettles of tea, and indulging in a scandalous amount of croissants.

The carnivorous parrots from The Boy and the Heron still live in my head rent-free. ❤️

On August 12, 1971, 16-year-old me mailed the first story I ever wrote off on its first submission to my dream market, F&SF. My tale was quickly rejected. On July 17th, 2025, I finally sold a story to that magazine. Here's why I felt I had to withdraw that story. www.scottedelman.com/wordpress/20...

Back to report that I’ve finished this, and if it doesn’t win a Hugo next year, I will be highly surprised. ❤️
I'm trying to read @alixeharrow.bsky.social's THE EVERLASTING while my child watches Bluey next to me, and my poor brain keeps returning "does not compute". 🙃

(It's a really good book though! Also, I like Bluey, too. 🙂)
