So often in media (maybe especially horror and thrillers) they get diabetes very wrong, and it's obviously being utilized as a device to accelerate the plot/motivate characters. And they treat insulin as if it does the opposite and highs as if they were lows. Crafting for Sinners gets it right 💕

Today’s book haul… including one non spooky season book that looked delightful. Also, Jaws is one of my favorite movies but I’ve never read the book, so… now I will! (Eventually maybe…)

What are you reading for spooky season?

Went on an absolute tear in the library & emerged with five books. I'm about to settle in with Mr. Moo, a bit of Malbec, and Jenny Kiefer's Crafting for Sinners...

Working in publishing means reading out of time. I read a bunch of things that aren't out yet. And I read other great books that I either don't own because I got a galley or borrowed from the library etc. But because it's the end of the year, here's a selection of the best things I read in 2025:

I want to read more outside of the horror genre in 2026 - looking for suggestions. Things I've liked that are not horror: Catch-22; Kurt Vonnegut; As I Lay Dying; magical realism; Lincoln in the Bardo; The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks; nonfic about genetics (more social than scientific)

Joy is anti fascist
My wish for 2026 is that we build a movement fuelled by joy as much as rage. We won't recruit allies unless we build welcoming spaces and we won't keep people unless we give them something to fight for.

Seeking joy is neither naive nor intellectually weak. It's the point of being alive!

I was at a con with a confusing layout & was trying to find the room where a famous author (who is now known to be a bad person) was giving a talk. In trying to find the room, we spotted the famous author & followed them at a slight distance. I figured we'd either be led to the right place.
Right folks. Feeling rather down at the moment so bringing back an oldie

Listened to the first two chapters so far of @jennykiefer.com 's THIS WRETCHED VALLEY.

I love how the first chapter sets up a tantalizing mystery and loads of dramatic irony.

Can't wait to dig in more!

If the only thing people remember about me is my love of possums, I'm fine with that. Thanks @authorplm.bsky.social for the long tailed addition to my army!

Instead I have borrowed THIS WRETCHED VALLEY by @jennykiefer.com

I already own it but I wanted the audio. This will be soothing (?)

Whatever, I can't explain how my brain works

Not sure who needs to hear this, but spell check, using a search engine, speech to text, and using translation software like Google Translate are NOT generative AI/LLMs. They are just regular software. They do not *generate* anything.
